Destroying Discord?
I've been using it without discord when testing it by myself and it works wonderfully, at least a 15 FPS increase. That being said, it seems to destroy discord. Is there any way I can use CPUCores without destroying discord? Whenever I do use it with discord, it seems to cut out input and output audio every moment or so and the incoming audio sounds scratchy.

Hey there Jerry!

Yup, just go to the Advanced -> Whitelist area and add the Discord app .exe name to there :)

Huh, I did that and it still doesn't work. I've typed in without the quotations "discord.exe" as it says in the task manager. Granted there are 3 discord.exe's active all with different process ID's when discord is on. Do I need to add "discord.exe" 3 times then?

Hey Jerry,

That is odd! I know people are doing the discord Whitelist right now so it should work.

Can you double-check you've added this to the Whitelist area of CPUCores?

Just as a test, go to Task Manager, locate one of your Discords. Check the Processor Affinity. Are all the checkboxes checked? Now check the other discord.exe. All the same?

Now open CPUCores. Do a non-Steam app and select something like mspaint.exe as it is super simple. Then click the START button.

Now go back to Task Manager. What do the 3 discord.exes show for their processor affinity and priority?

I have added discord to the whitelist area of CPUCores in the advanced settings with the whitelist config.

For later references, there are 3 discord.exe's with different process ID's in this order

Discord.exe (Process ID 7616)
Discord.exe (Process ID 3112)
Discord.exe (Process ID 6244)

I also have this link as a reference for my laptop as this is the exact model I have just in case you'd like to see.
https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-z50-75-80ec-15-6-a10-7300-8-gb-ram-1-tb-hdd-80ec000tus/specs/

I checked all the Processor Affinity's for each one and all three have all boxes checked (<All Processors>, CPU 0, CPU 1, CPU 2, and CPU 3) with all the priorities set to normal before starting CPUCores.

After starting CPUCores on mspaint, everything remained the same except for the third discord.exe with Process ID 6244. The discord.exe with the 6244 ID seems to be set at the low priority but everything else is the same. When I stop CPUCores it returns to normal.

But when I decided to test it again, ID 6244 didn't change to low priority. In fact when this time none of them changed and stayed the same.

On starting CPUCores a third time I found that nothing changed. Everything has the same Process Affinity with all boxes checked and the priority set to normal.

Interesting results. I wonder if the issue is because you have THREE of the same process?

>"except for the third discord.exe with Process ID 6244. "

What was different with this one?

Can you first do this: Reboot See if perhaps it is an error that Discord has 3 .exe running at the same time.

Then after you reboot, do you have just 1 Discord, or still have all 3?

I have no idea what's different with the third one.

I have also rebooted and it seems the three discord.exe's are still there, albiet with different Process ID's now. It also seems that ending one of the .exe's ends all three.

> "I have no idea what's different with the third one."

Well, I mean that you said that it was different. But how was it different?

What I'm trying to figure out is, when you have CPUCores NOT turned on, all 3 of them have "normal" for process priority, and "all" for CPU affinity.

But then AFTER you run CC (with mspaint for example) what do all 3 of them say?

Then turn CC off, do all 3 go back to prior?

And then back on, what do all 3 say?

I don't have discord at the moment so it is hard to test. Is there a best link that I could install it on?

ALSO:

As a temporary work-around, you could do this:

Start CC
Start your game
THEN START DISCORD

If you start discord AFTER CC "START" has happened, then CC should ignore Discord entirely. But if you stop/start CC then you'll want to exit/restart Discord.

Thanks!

I mean I can't figure out what exactly makes the third one different from the others besides the different Process ID. On restarting my laptop, there is always the three Discord.exe's, just with different Process ID's.

After I run CC, everything remains at normal priority and all affinity. The only time this was different was upon the very first try, when the third one was changed to low priority when I turned on CC.

I have not been able to replicate the first try since, and all of them remain at normal priority and all affinity regardless of whether CC is on or not.

Turning on CC with mspaint does not change their priority or affinity anymore, yet discord is still unable to function properly.

Turning off CC, everything remains the same but discord now has functionality.

Turning on CC once more yields the same results, with discord being non-functional.

I however have tried your work around and it has worked for me.

You can download Discord from the official website: https://discordapp.com/download

I'm having a similar issue except the workaround hasn't worked for me. My ping in Discord skyrockets to way above normal and it bugs me since CPUCores helps with everything else.

I already have it whitelisted and the whole "3 discord.exe" fiasco too but otherwise the solutions so far don't work.

Help is appreciated!

Hey both of you guys!

I'm going to be modifying CPUCores for the next UPDATE to include some better handling for Discord. This should be live the next update that is released, ETA somewhere in 1-2 week range.

The specific change will include the software internally looking for Discord and ensuring that no handling of the application occurs that would make it detrimental at all.

The update is FREE of course and should download automatically in Steam when it is ready!

Thanks for reporting this issue :)

If you could also have a safety net about it not strangling over VOIPs (Curse, Teamspeak, etc.) I would appreciate it so, so much.

Hey, thanks a lot man! It's actually great to see a developer take action for their customers.

It would appear the issue is still not resolved. Was there an exception list made to this since last or will there be a need for a constant App check?

Because I was getting the same thing while using the program during my Wildlands Playthrough during a Game broadcast. I still couldn't use Discord because of reports of me sounding to robotic, and the service effected that I could notice was still the VOIP part of the service.

because I was getting an Average ping to my VOIP server of 935ms only while running CPUCores, while running the game Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands.

It works wonders in getting the game to run smooth-ish 80% of the time too. But, there is still this discord issue.

I am willing to etch out some more time for testing, just let me know when you have time.
