How does the multiplayer work?
Can't figure out how to connect to my friends or anyone really. I understand not being able to join random games but I just want to play a few games with my friends.

Not sure if there is any steam support, but he game basically uses DirectPlay. You need to open some ports for the framework to be able to play online(2300-2400, 47624,6073 TCP and UDP). Then you can either use a lobby application(CoopNet,Gameranger,Gamespy ..etc) or host a game from the multiplayer menu. The clients can join by typing your IP in the box in the multiplayer menu. If you have trouble with the ports you can use VPN (hamachi, tunngle ..etc) and IP join through the virtual LAN (the game should be listed without typing the IP).

Thanks. I will try that next time I get a chance. I hope it works.

Just tried the steam version and the exe seems altered, doesn't work with CoopNet sadly. GameRanger does though, so if you only want to play with friends that's your best bet. The community could use more poeple though.

I wouldn't mind going deeper into the community so which ever is easiest on my computer. I am running and older crappy one that whenever I let people touch it I have to clean food off of it everytime.

game ranger works and LAN works as well. otherwise you're pretty well stuck playing solo. not that the game is bad solo.
