If you aren't playing on tough guy, you might want to try that mission on foot and have the APC bring up the rear. There is a bug in the way that hits are calculated for targets in the cone of burst fire, as opposed to the one being targeted. Basically, characters who aren't being targeted are much more likely to be hit by the high rate of fire weapons than the character being targeted. So as long your guys are spread out so that only one of them is in the firing cone, the enemies will fire at you with all the accuracy of a blind man on crack while you take them down.
That mission is a rather unexpected jump in the difficulty... Farsight critically hits supermutant in the eyes for 1 point of damage in the eyes with a sniper rifle... Super Mutant hits Farsight hard for 118 points of damage...lots of fun.
