The green moat in St. Louis
Pretty sure I know the answer already:
Is there any way out of the green moat if your vehicle falls into it?
I'm, uh, asking for a friend....

Hi. Within my knowledge no. Err just curious how did the vehicle got into the moat?
Clionerd Oct 10, 2020 @ 10:04am
There's a tricky bit, which I've done successfully many times before, where you can cross the moat at a narrow point (where the chest is) and drive around to the northern edge of the fortress. There's a very thin ledge you can drive on, but you have to hit it at just the right angle, or else you fall in. (You can drive on the edge of the moat with only one tread. Again, makes no sense, but it works.)

If you're in the moat, your characters can get out of the vehicle and walk around on the green stuff, but they can't get out on foot either.

I was hoping that since the game didn't automatically end when I fell in that there was some hope, but the game has several kinds of dead ends where you can't win and can't lose either.

Walking around in the goo would make your crew get radiated does it not?

It should, but it doesn't seem to be radioactive like all other green goo. Of course, it doesn't make much difference in this case, dead end is dead end.

Mostly curious as to why you would want to get the APC over there in the first place, boredom?
Clionerd Oct 12, 2020 @ 12:19pm
I like to pick up as much barter junk as possible and kill as many super mutants as possible without having to storm the fort completely yet. (Normally, I come back and take the fort towards the end of the game when everyone is in power armor.) Boredom is also a big factor.

Ah. If you have spare grenades and a good sniper, you can take that fort pretty easy.

First thing is to use your sniper from the north side, in the trenches, to pick off as many as possible.

Then move your team to the entrance ramp side. Place your sniper on the bridge over the green moat, and position a few squad members to either side of the bottom of the ramp (out of the blast range of those mines). Have your sniper initiate combat. They will mostly fire from range but are bad shots at a distance, and they will send a few melee who will plough through most of those mines. Use your flanking peeps to finish off any who get through. Then use your cheapest grenades to set off the mines as they are very hard to defuse.

After that advance up the ramp carefully, and slowly pick off the remaining mutants as you make your way through the camp.

St Louis. Why does my guy keep getting irradiated on regular ground in this mission?
I send my guy out to collect weapons and repair the APC but he keeps getting irradiated.. This is my repair guy and heavy weapons..should I reload the beginning and have him take anti radiation pills and will that last the whole mission? It takes his strength down so he cant use the heavy gun

That's weird. Do you have a ghoul or other radiated character? Sometimes you get irradiated from people, not the ground. I usually just take the radiation treatment (the little plastic baggy with the red cross on it) after the fact instead of preventive stuff beforehand.

Yes thanks. I had a Ghoul with glowing one who irradiates my guys in the APC (with only 3 EN he got irradiated)... Now Stitch, my doctor, his first aid / doctor skills used to be 100 / 100, now they are only 74 / 74. He has no negative effects and I took off his metal armor and his doctor/first aid stats are lower for some reason

Is it even worth it to have a Ghoul? He's an incredible sniper with PE 14, but if Im going to get irradiated by being in the APC...

If you have 2 vehicles you could put him alone in another one after the mission?

I've come to realize I play this game weird compared to other players. I only do normal human characters, never use big guns, and never do unarmed/melee. Perhaps I am not the best source of advice. : - )

I only use human too. Endgame spoiler: at the end of the game I usually choose the "human-dominant" option...not a fan of muties. :P

And usually only one teammate for big guns. I only use melee more cuz the mods make those skills much more viable. If solo I'm all sniper rifles, handguns, and energy guns.

The first time I used an RPG it was a character with low BG skill, and he killed my entire squad, and I never looked back. Grenade launchers are comparable, hurt you less, and they count as small guns. For the same reason, for a long time I didn't use grenades, either, but now I do and I don't know how I managed without them.

Let me ask a dumb question, what good are handguns? I never used them, an AK always seemed a better choice.. Even with Desert Eagle. What do you use grenades for, dont seem to do much damage and seems a waste of points
