FIX FOR FATAL ERROR

If you start it up and you see:
"C:\dev\phoenix\display\directx7\dd7_display.c99(715):**fatal error **: Could not create primary and back surfaces"
here's what you need to do.

1: Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout Tactics folder and create a Shortcut for BOS.exe
2: Move the shortcut to another folder or desktop
3: Right click the Shortcut and go to Properties
4: Under the Shortcut tab you should see Target and in the box the location of the BOS.exe in quotes.
5: At the end of the quotes put a space then -g
Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout Tactics\BOS.exe" -g
6: Run the game from the Shortcut

just to clarifye let the games start on windows 8 mode they in game go to options display and click the default button once and this fix will work

1. When active collapsed BOS.exe -g changed the display resolution to a convenient one for me (1366*768)
2. Exited the game via the main menu and launched the version from steam

This topic very usefull, I have an another question may be you can help, when you close the game, the game still working in win10. how to fix this? and how to fix when you alt + tab the game, I hear the game in background?

Use this link to acquire the high resolution patch if not already present in your game folder

Go into your Fallout Tactics games folder (within /steamgames) and apply the HiRes patch fix onto your BOS.exe. Once this is applied, you can launch the game as normal and will have access to high resolution solutions for your monitor in game.

There is also an equivilant high resolution patch for the editor as well, which if applied will also allow high resolution within the editor.

NO NEED TO MAKE A NEW SHORTCUT OR ANYTHING! This will now allow the game to launch normally in Steam.

The simplest solution:
1. Open the file "bos.cfg" in the directory "\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout Tactics\core"
2. Change the parameter "{display.bpp} = {16}" to {display.bpp} = {32}
3. Save the file, play.

P.S.
Do't use 16 bit color resolution.

3. The window resolution should be downsized slightly but noticably.

5. Start the game normally. Change Resolution to your choice, 32 Bit.

I know this thred is quite old but since there´s a Fallout steam sale going on, I´ll share this anyway.
I do not know if what the friend above quote said works, BUT if you go into the installation folder (steamapps/common/Fallout Tactics/) you´ll see that there is already a file named FOT_HRes_Patch.exe, from the steam installation itself. So just run it and you are good to go!
ps. There is also a FT_Tools.exe which let´s you build campaings and level editor, and also FTTools_HiRes_Patch.exe as well, straight out of the box of installation from steam.
