how do you gain rank affiliation- im lvl 52 but still lvl1 with hearts? is it supposed to be this slow or am i missing something

50 lvls/rank starting at lvl 10

theres a green bar that shows your progress once you fill this you will need to lvl up

Yes you have to hit 60 and pay to rank up. I actually want it to be even slower. I don't want it to rank too fast. I'm already 71 and Rank 2 with the HEARTS but rather rank slow to rack in chips. People at the 100s and 1000s lvl put in the hours. So great for the players that grind. Staying with the same group you can hit an achievement Rank 4 Pit boss. You can get another achievement when you switch affiliation. So it depends on what you want to achieve.
