Stuttering Fix: We need your help to test!
Hey all,

Thanks for this creative workaround listed in the thread here. We've been attempting to solve this on our end too and are having issues reproducing the stuttering bug which seems to be tied to audio files. If anyone would like to help, we think this solution should solve things but we need your assistance in trying it out.

INSTRUCTIONS:
There is now a separate steam branch with Eng, Rus, Pol, Ita versions of Pathologic Classic HD with Sounds.vfs unpacked.
Currently, the branch is under the beta access password: erlt67fk23kf
You can switch the branch in steam game properties (by entering the password and switching branch)
Here's a guide on Switching branches if this is NEW TO YOU.

Would you be kind enough to try it and let us know the result? Of course, you will have to remove the fix listed above to make sure it doesn't conflict. Thanks so much!

I can confirm that all of my previous issues with stuttering are now thanks to this solution fixed. Before the game began to stutter within couple of moments, but now it's running completely smoothly. Thank you for the fix.

So what if we have the GoG version, whats the fix there? I ask here because there is no Pathologic HD forum on GoG.

Coming from a clean install and entering the beta branch does stop the stuttering for me. Was unplayable without the manual fix from the linked thread. Now it also runs great using this one.

The tech support on GoG wont give any advice either, only a refund. So if any of you figure something out that works on that version as well, that would be great. Would rather keep the game and experience it than refund.

Didn't have much stuttering and honestly could have lived with it (others probably have it worse for some reason) but this does improve it a lot

They might be seeing if it works for users here and then push an update through GoG if it does(?) Found a forum here https://www.gog.com/forum/pathologic_classic_hd but nothing on stuttering fix

Huh, thats strange. I have Pathologic HD classic in my library on GoG and when you click on "view forum" it directs you to the General discussion page. That's the default page for games that don't have a forum on GoG. Pathologic 2 does have a forum however. In any case, there isn't near as much activity on GoG forums, which is probably why the developer is updating here, and not over there.

The beta unpacks the sounds.vfs file, which we figured out how to do in the thread they linked at the beginning. If the gog version has sounds packed together into a vfs file, unpacking that file might do the trick for you.

Link to thread in cased you missed it: https://steamcommunity.com/app/384110/discussions/0/1836811737983337599/

And, to the devs, thanks for implementing a fix. I tried to test it, but it seems as though my new hardware rectified whatever issues the game was having with the sounds on my end, since the stuttering appears to have gone, even with the sounds still packed into the vfs.

It worked, thank you!

Oh shoot I wasn't aware this was so recent, I appreciate the dedication to improving this product.

That being said, I tried installing the beta as was done, and noticed the stuttering issue was still present. This of course was with VSync off and uncapped FPS, (Assuming either of those would affect the beta or if FPS Capping is even possible) for all I know this could have to do with my particular processor or I could've gotten the thing installed improperly. I'll be willing to give further feedback though.

it worked, the game is running smoothly now. thanks!

I have a I5-10400F and when i try to play it with vsync, i get bad stutter/frametime because for some reason, when i put vsync on, it puts all the load on a single core, not only that, but that single core usage become 99%, when not using vsync the per core usage is not even 5%, cant play this way =/

Yes, I confirm as well. Stuttering is gone the instant I switch to the suggested beta.
luckymud May 31, 2021 @ 12:43pm
stuttering has disappeared once i switched to the beta but the house of the living quest on day 2 is now impossible because despite having 3 smoked meat, 3 loafs of bread and 3 fresh fish (quest says i need dried fish but there are no dried fish that i can find but maybe that is the cause?) the quest does not continue and still says to get the resources, i do not know what to do, perhaps this is caused by the fix?
