Can't review the game - saying I have to purchase again

I love the project and hope it gets a dedicated server and fulfills its amazing promise, but at the moment I'm curious: if you buy the version for sale on steam is this different than the one purchased earlier? I've got games that no longer have store pages, but this is the only one I own that takes me to a store page prompting me to buy it again.
