Yea you can play with mods online

In casual matches, you have the option for 1v1s with workshop items, and in friendly lobbies you can change rulesets to turn on workshop. You also however need to have the same mods as your opponent(s) in order to use them though

Wait so what happens if I don’t have the workshop items my opponent has? Does it automatically install it for me or I just can’t fight them?

Sadly, you just can't use them if you don't have the mod for them that your opponent has, you are still able to use the ones you opponent DOES have though

Huh?? You worded that a little weird at the end? So if I hop into a casual match, will my opponent be able to use their own installed workshop items while I’m able to use my own installed workshop items? Or do we both need each other’s workshop items installed?

So even if I’m not playing as their installed characters, I still need their mods installed to even see them???? That sucks?? Then what’s the point of casual with workshop mods on??? Opponent could literally have ANY mod,,

No, you don't need to have those characters installed if you're not gonna use them. I'm sorry if i'm getting you all confused

Oh so I can still fight other people’s modded characters and still use my modded characters and everything’ll be fine?
like even if I don’t have my opponent’s character installed I can still fight that character?

If you are playing casual / with friends with mods, you both not only require the -same- mod, but they have to also be the same -version-.
If something isn't working, you'll see a small icon of the Rival's logo with a no symbol in there and it'll explain it's not the same version as your opponent.

If you verify your files (as in, you and your friends) with the same mods installed, this tends to alleviate any issues. Worst case scenario, uninstall the mod in question and reinstall it, or just uninstall and reinstall all of them if it's getting fussy.

That's correct.

The best way I've found to do this (if you update and add to your mods as much as I do), is to make a Collection (or, I make a separate Collection for Stages, Skins, Characters, and Buddies myself) for your friends to refer to. Either that or just every time you add one, let your friends know.

If it doesn't work when you go to play, then everyone either needs to reinstall the mod, or just verify the game files. Verifying seems to solve most problems though.

Wait no I mean workshop mods that I download myself and what other ppl download from the workshop, I’m not planning on making any mods, does the same thing apply?

An automatic workshop downloader would be nice, but I can't complain. This game is cool enough as is, and I've only played five minutes.

Well, yes.

I'm not talking about making the mods themselves. A Collection is like a personal subscription list though that others can look at.

You can subscribe to mods, favorite them, but there's also an option to "add to collection" so you have a list to refer to later on, or for subscribing to several mods at the same time (if you share the list with someone).
