Orcane Tips?
So, I'm not a huge player of this genre. I've played a bit of smash throughout my years (and PS All-Stars, did my time there), but assume I've got no skill to speak of.

That all being said, I'm enjoying Orcane's playstyle quite a bit, and would love some tips on how to use this character a bit more efficiently.

Primarily, I'd like to figure out how I should be balancing my use of puddles for either bubbles or teleports, and if I should use them aggressively or as safety nets.

Secondarily, what are some good matchup tips? For me personally, I'm having a bit of trouble actually managing to kill Kragg. I may wind up having trouble with Zetterburn too, but so far only one player's wiped me hard with him. In general, just throw out some matchup tips against any character, I'd greatly appreciate them.

I hope Orcane players in general can use your responses as a resource. If there's already a thread dedicated to this kind of thing, I'm sorry. I didn't see one, so I figured I'd start one up.

I use bubbles very liberally. It's not generally hard to toss down another puddle afterwards.

As for killing people, dash attack into forward strong works on most characters at kill percents. Kragg is always hard to get rid of, but at least he's a big target for your bubbles.

I have a big problem hitting Kragg with bubbles. 90% of the time a rock blocks them. God I wish they could break rocks.

Don't forget you can also spew out bubbles with your forward air. It's sometimes hard to hit grounded characters with it, but Kragg is a massive target. If you hold forward to stay close you can get a followup afterwards.

what should I be using as a general air combo killer? I've been comboing people off the ledge with nair > dair and that pushes them down fairly far so they can mess up their recovery, but it's definitely not guaranteed. Is that what I should be doing or is there a better air combo for off the ledge?

1. Stop playing Orcane
2. Play Zetterburn and kill at 50%
3. ???
4. Profit :^)

Orcane feels to me like a partial zoner. If you can play patiently and keep out with bubbles (down B or fair), then people get annoyed trying to get in and do punishable stuff that can be hit with Orcane's incredibly fast down strong.

Remember that you can parry rock and the rock break. I haven't run into a single Kragg yet online or offline who isn't predicable with their rocks. Also, space out at higher percents with puddle charged forward strong.

IMO, Orcane has the absolute best edge gaurd ability in the game. As long as you can get a good off stage knock back, you can almost always punish their recovery's special fall with run in down strong (don't underestimate the slide distance). Bonus points if it's puddle charged.

Also, this tech is extremely good, but takes practice. (and it was confirmed by Fornace that it will not be patched out)

I need to work on my parrying a lot. It's weird. sometimes the timing feels super generous and other times it feels incredibly tight. Just need to get some time in with the parry.

And yeah, Orcane seems great for edge guarding. I can harrass people with the droplet for some extra damage, push them down with dair and get back on the ledge easily, or use my great strongs to keep them out. I didn't realize that the down strong was very fast, so I'll have to try to use it more.

As for the Orca Hop, that's really interesting. Seems like it'll be more helpful for when I screw up or get caught without a puddle though.

Parrying is inconsistent online because online. Down strong is a 7 frame move, which is faster than almost everything in the game.

Yeah. The timings can be weird and it's hard to get the horizontal momentum going back towards the stage. As I said in the Reddit thread, IMHO it's a minor mixup or a get off me type of move when you need it.

My tip is to use the puddle teleport sparingly, for both offense and recovery. Don't use it unless you know 100% it will help you. Even if you're only 99% sure it won't backfire, don't use it. As for the recovery, the Side-Special is very great when combined with the wall jump. Also, use the Down-Special (Bubble Fountain and Puddle Drop) a lot. Both variants great for combo-starting, they're easy to replace, and the Puddle Drop has a decent meteor.
