Is Wave Dashing Annoying?
Wave dashing isn't too good to the point that it makes somebody win but I find it annoying to fight against and just kind of stupid for it to be in a game like this. It was in smash melee but it wasn't put in intentionally. It was a "glitch" (it's not really but to keep it simple i'll be calling it that) that just kind of happened as people discovered it and it became a part of the game. Then on it changed. now in smash 4 it's not really there.

Im gonna use an example from a different game to explain what I think is wrong with this technique and my personal reason I kind of think it shouldn't be in this game. This game is far different and unrelated but i'll be mention a "glitch" from Halo 2. In Halo 2 you could do something called a BXR and a multishot with the battle rifle. The BXR was where you could shoot a burst and melee simultaneously allowing you to kill instantly at melle range. If you were good with this technique you could beat someone with an energy sword (practicaly the best melee weapon in the game). It takes four bursts to kill with the Battle Rifle and some people were able to perform a "Quad" shot. So they were able to fire a massive burst with no delay between shots killing extremely fast. Now for good reason these were takin out of future titles. People who could do these these things had a massive advantage.

Now to Rivals. So I was talking to somebody who i'm in a group with over this community and He was mentioning how wave dashing allows him to perform combos that would be impossible otherwise. So let me get this straight... Because you can do this "glitch" you have some sort of advantage. It's one thing for this game mechanic to just happen but for someone to make a game, know about this kind of move, and intentionally let it be a part of the game?

I get that it does provide a new sense of depth in peoples skill levels, which is cool in that way, but I find it annoying and strange that something like this is in the game. Its just straight up annoying to fight against.

Sorry for the rant but this is something I've thought about for a long time. Do you guys agree or disagree with the fact that it seems kind of lame? Do you use the wavedash technique? Do you think something like this should or shouldn't have been put in the game? What do you think?

As a Zetter and Forsburn main. Wavedashing is intergeral to some advanced techinques. it promotes better spacing too. It gives characters the oppurtunity to Combo longer for mastering it. Its insanely easy to use in this game and it should stay.

fair enough but it wasnt a question of it is "intergeral" with certain techniques, its not a question of difficulty in the techique, and it's not a question of it bringing new combos to a character. Wavedashing was an unintentional technique that opened up combos and strings that shouldn't be possible in the game normally. It was taken out of future title's for this reason. However, it's not really that unfair because everyone can do it. Does the fact that it opens up combos that shouldn't normally be possible make it not a questionable technique to be put in the game?

You're missing a core difference. It WAS intended to be put in this game, and thus the techniques are balanced around it.

Well... I really can't argue against that.

Also the creators of this game wanted a competetive fighting experience. Sakurai who heads the Smash series hated how Melee became competitive and went to great lengths to try to ensure Brawl would be a casual party game and not something played at tournaments.

I know he did but smash 4 became a competative game. On top of that wavedashing isn't needed to make a game competative.

Im mostly talking about the mechanic of wave dashing itself. Charles Sockley had a great point on how the game is actaully balanced around it unlike melee. I can respect this viewpoint. I personally find wavedashing a little annoying to play against. I wanted to here other people's views on this game mechanic.

Anything can be competitive as long as people want it to be wether or not the game is a GOOD competitive title is another thing, and smash 4 is definetly not.

did this discussion bring up what makes a competative game? READ! Im assuming many of you can read english.

I don't have any issue with it. It's much weaker than it is in Melee, and it's also not difficult to pull off.

I think it makes the movement a lot smoother and enjoyable. It's not really a glitch since the ROA devs implomented it on purpose. And as far as i know, it doesn't allow you to pull of combos that you shouldn't be able to do. Overall i think it should stay, as it enhances the movement, and doesn't really harm other aspects game. :)

okay. I mentioned that it wasn't a glitch but I can respect your point of view.

I'm starting to realize that this is one of those things were you think its bad but then everyone else likes it... I'm quickly realizing that I'm just being nitpicky.

thanks for your opinions guys

I hate wavedashing in Smash Bros. Don't mind it in RoA because it doesn't kill my fingers.

So you dislike Wavedashing, huh? You don't have to wavedash to enjoy this game, something I'm sure you're aware of. If you are of the mindset that it being an option for those who want to use it ruins the game, well now you're ♥♥♥♥ out of luck bud. It is far less powerful than in Melee and, as mentioned above, it was put in intentionally. It is taken into consideration when balancing. I'm gonna be a bit harsh here, but I just see someone butthurt about having to change their mindset from game to game.

If you have a problem with it, just don't play RoA. You seem to enjoy Smash4, why not just stick to that?

The only use I've seen for wavedashing was moving from left to right on the stage after a kill. No one seems to use it to actually accomplish anything, increase their mobility, or continue combos, and I don't either (don't even know how, honestly). In that sense it's annoying, yeah; a feature put in that no one's figured out yet.

As the game gets older, though, I'm sure some people will find out how to use it properly and will, you know, actually exploit it to its full extent instead of as an alternative to taunting. It probably requires quick inputs to work properly, though, which means it'll probably only be used in competitive play.

Wait what? Wavedashing is just great for spacing and amazing to use overall.
I like the sound effects too.
