Can you play Online and have Local players too?

I wanna play with my friends but they're both in the same room, can both of them join my game from the same computer?
Like uhh Halo splitscreen online where you can have multiple players on the same screen join someone else's game(just realized this is really bad comparison since you can't splitscreen MCC on PC only on Console) , is that a better way to explain it?

As far as i am aware, there is no way to do that, although smash bros did it, you can't have two people on a different console fighting against another two people except in the same room.

Also why would you need split screen when you're playing a platform fighter?

Guess using Halo as a comparison was kinda weird but nevertheless I got the unfortunate answer I was expecting.
