Until we get official word from the devs I'm fully convinced it's a technical limitation.

its just not ready yet. custom colors means sending and receiving more data when starting a match. and that could effect performance.
Both correct but I think it would be cool if it was planned on being added eventually.

I even think just seeing your own skins online would be nice. If the opponent uses a custom skin, they would appear as one of the player's custom skins. I'd rather see my created skins over some of the commonly picked skins.

What do you mean by this? Are you claiming that you have to pay to use these skins or does the developer not think it's worth the time/money to bring this feature to the online?
The developers are selling several skins for money in the store already. If they made it so you could use skins online there would be less incentive to buy them.

Actually, It's impossible to make the exclusive skins as customs.
Even if you got close, it wouldn't have the special effects or taunts.

We've been over this already.

That's my point. Custom skins should be considered to be put online (whether you are seeing other players or just youre own) because it's in the game and they aren't unique like the exclusive skins.

I'm pretty sure they might be locked out of (non-friendly) online play because if people could see the other player's skins, they could make it blend into the background or just hard to see (like all black or something.) or in terms of using the client's custom color, they could make it where it's very high contract and more visable. (Colors that contrast most of the game's palette.)

It seems like a double edged sword so they just choice to keep it like Mii Fighters in Smash 4, friendly matches only.

I thought the reason behind not using custom colors online was because some colors can make opponents hard to fight. For example, you can't tell if a 100% black Forsburn has inhaled 3 puffs of smoke. You would have to use your memory.

But I still think you should be able to use custom colors online, though.

why would you set your own forsburn skin to 000,000,000 RGB on everything if you don't play forsburn? you know the other player's skin isn't and never will be able to show up, right?
Wouldn't sending a custom color just take an extra packet or two? I mean, you would only need to send and receive 3 or 4 bytes per color.
