Rivals of Aether

Will the roster still be expanded?
Looking at the available characters right now, there are only 13 characters to play as. Seems pretty sparse, especially as 5 of the 13 are 'locked' behind a paywall.

On a side note, will the devs ever release free characters? 8 base characters doesn't cut it for me. :/

8 base is the same amount of characters you start with in smash bros n64 lmao.
but yeah RoA does need some free characters. sure the game is on sale along with the old dlcs but still. we need some new free content that isn't a tutorial for a dlc you can't afford.

There will be one more 'guest' character, as Ori is a guest. a 14 Character roster is pretty good, considering other sucsessful indie fighters have had much less. Skullgirls comes quickly to mind.

As for 'paywalls', its just my opinion but I feel like that term has a lot of particularily negative associations that are not really applicable to how Rivals releases more characters. As far as I know they only intended to release the original 8, with a few stages, story mode, vs, and online. Obviously the game got really popular and people wanted more! The devs have had to hire more people to do better artwork and release the content the people wanted.

Especially in the indie game scene I dont find it unreasonable to have a small pricetag on a well thought out, much desired addition to a game that on its own doesnt even reach 20$.

And that's why Skullgirls was so overrated. Sure, it had over-the-top gameplay and beautiful graphics, but it's gameplay's arguably TOO over-the-top, and with only 8 characters, it got old fast. On RofA, I honestly hope the 2nd guest character isn't human. The all-animal roster is honestly why I love RofA so much, and I feel adding a human will dilute the roster with a character I'll never use. Especially with so many game where humans are the ONLY goodguys, RofA is a breath of fresh air.

I do agree with the whole paywall thing. I personally couldn't care less if we got a freebie. I do not mind paying for new characters, and so far, they have been reasonably priced. Plus, I have a soft spot for helping out small companies by buying their products.

they should release sandbert and the training stage for free.

I agree, the paywall is ridiculous. For $15, you can get a whole lot more content from *other* games. Heck, for free, you can get all kinds of content in Brawlhalla. The paywall in that game is barbaric, but at least it makes sense.

Orby 4 playable character

Why not? That's a pretty healthy roster.

Brawlhalla was always intening to run on that type of a platform though,
Rivals did not have that kind of an image in mind for their game, so all of this new content is really more than they had orignally intended to do.

As for what the guest character may actually be, people scream for cory in the house and rocket car.. but those people are freaks an will not get their way. I think more realistically people are hoping for something like that green animal character with the swords from Dust, an elysian tale (i think thats what it is). I dont think they will put a real human in this game.

I have not bought any DLC, as I am a filthy casual. But I would not complain of the DLC tactics in this game. The prices are reasonable for an indie studio; and most importantly, I have seen both the game and DLCs go though sales countless times at 50%. I have some games in my wishlist that have refused to throw more than a 33%. RoA even threw a 50% for a DLC on its launch day!

I also wish this game continues to release more characters, either in the form of DLC or even as a freebie. Even filthy casuals like me enjoy variaty of characters:BEjoyful:!
prpl_mage 4 ABR 2018 a las 2:03 a. m.
I wouldn't say additional characters can be considered a paywall seeing how they were released after the original game was released. That's optional additional content.
Ikarus 4 ABR 2018 a las 2:51 a. m.
DLC characters were a thing that the us the community wanted ! Game's been out since 2015 and a lot of veteran players started to get bored with the original roster so the devs put extra work on the dlc so of course it's going to be paid dlc , just keep in mind that time=$$$

paywal.. just couse of other games... heck how many they do and all.. thats insane for critic ... its a bit more to think about but well as of right now it would not be affordable but in later builds it will come i guess... but biggest point is easy to point out that each character is original and good asides from brawlhalla where you need to unloock.. i easily spent more money on brawlhalla becouse its in lead of some things but if rivals keeps up it will be free i guess to sell more on dlc things and all but as of right now wait 2 to 3 years and bam its not barbaric... it acculay works pretty well on a game worth the money and all its that
