This is getting ridiculous- How do I deal with Etalus
Just dropped a full 80 points on the ranked ladder because I got matched with the same Etalus player several times in a row.

I main Zetter, although I have recently picked up Kragg.

On Zetter, the only way I have really been able to take stocks away from an Etalus player is by just hitting them first and then comboing as hard as absolutely possible. If they combo me, there is pretty much nothing I can do, DSmash covers pretty much all recovery options and is safe for the Etalus, and NSpecial for the superarmor makes it so I really can't get back o nstage at all (even if they don't go for the Dair recovery denial). If they get me in the air, as far as I know nothing Zetter has beats out Etalus Uair.

Are there any characters that just completely shut out Etalus that I could try, or is there anything else I could try doing to beat Etalus players out? I feel like I constantly lose games to Etalus players despite it seeming like I'm the better player in the match.

Honestly, you're already on the right track, lol. Rushing him down before he can execute his craziness is the order of the day.

Parry the icicles that he rains down, because they're stupid predictable once you actually make yourself learn the timing. That'll create huge openings to punish him.

His smashes are RIDICULOUS when he has the ice armor on - but it also makes him so heavy that he's total combo bait. As Zetter you oughta chew him up when he's armored. Try to force him offstage when he's armored, so he's forced to waste it boosting his up+b

You'll also want to work on reading the enemy. When Etalus is armored, his smash attacks are basically free. Either keep away unless you're POSITIVE you can get in there without getting smashed, or try to parry his smash attacks. They have really distinctive windups, so it's impossible to mistake them for another attack.

All you can really do when you're offstage is try to vary up your recovery as much as possible. Zetter's recovery is pretty bad most of the time, so you have to work on cancelling your up+b and down+b into air dodges so you can weave through Etalus' nonsense.

there are up b angles etalus either can't beat or can't hit from the ground and everything beats up air, problem solved.

You ask this about etalus but not absa who can wall out anyone with her f-tilt and cloud and literally all her moves can kill?

xD Yea Absa is EXTREMELY annoying I hope the next character we get can deal with her regardless of who the character is

When I lose to an Amsa, I typically can point out points where I got to aggressive or missed a parry or let her wall me out. With Etalus I don't see things like that.

Although, ftild does like no damage, and the move is unsafe as its easy to parry

he is disgustingly heavy with ice armor, if you manage to start a combo on him then you are guaranteed to rack up some mad % if you can follow di

You can't get those angles below the stage however, and the Etalus can still react and jump + Uair if you try and pass above him which just tosses you below the stage or ends a stock.

And 'everything beats Up air' OK... Well apparently 'everything' does not include:
Zetters Dair, Shine, Nair, Fair (obviously from certain angles), Dspecial, and Kraggs Dair and Nair.
Right.

I know this, I played in beta too... But how should I try approaching? His standing normals have a decent bit of range, so should I just try and bait them out or parry?

Pair it with good timing and a cloud then your set... and the "good timing" is easy to do

I didnt really read most of the comments already made, so correct me if someone has already said this. As an Etalus main myself, the best way to cope iwth Etalus's ridiculous edge-guarding game is to revocer with down-B as much as possible. Zetterburns up-B is really easy to parry/punish, but down-b's hitbox is dumb. So use that. Good luck I guess

TL;DR: Down-b 4 recover
Zatch Apr 3, 2017 @ 6:00pm
Also, try to mix-up your recovers with that thing where you up-b into the wall near the ledge, wall-jump,. and then airdodge back onto the stage. I used to have Zetter as a secondary and I had trouble doing this, so don't focus on it too much if you're having trouble.

I could play some matches with u as a sparring partner. I still get totally bodied by etalus players like allergic to bullets or the ♥♥♥♥, but I can hold my own.

I had mentioned this in a comment, but I was mainly talking about when I get knocked below the ledge and I can't use down-b or really mix up my recovery enough to get above Etalus quickly enough an Etalus player cant react with Uair for example.

Works pretty well, Midwest here. We could maybe play a bit over the weekend.
