If you're in the Drone Workshop while editing your drone, click on a certain part (which ideally has children) and then on the left side click on the "stamp" icon (has a "Create Dronepart Template" mouseover). Then a popup opens with a preview and some additional info which you can add. Click on Create Template.
Afterwards you can go to the droneparts on the bottom and choose the "Drone Part Template" tab (stamp icon). There you can select and place the afore created template.
Attention: You can't create a template when you have the drone core selected.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info :)
Cheers,
Markus
