Crashing / Menu Bugs
Hi everyone, we're trying to figure out why some people are experiencing crashing and menu issues. Some people have no issues, and some people are reporting lots of crashes. We need your help to diagnose this!

UPDATE: We have launched an update fixing many issues with resolution scaling and the opening level. Check here for more info, and let us know if you still get stuck at the black screen. If this happens, try uninstalling and re-installing first!

If you have experienced these issues, please post in this thread with the below information.

  • What you were doing at the time of the issue (please be as detailed as possible)
  • What level of the game you were in at the time of the issue
  • What operating system you're on (and if it's 32 or 64 bit)
  • What CPU and GPU you are using
  • What driver version you are using for your GPU
  • Additionally, emailing us the Unity crash files would aid us tremendously! When you experience a crash, it gives a pop-up menu telling you where the files are. Please email us the files at info@raconteurgames.com with the above information as well as posting it here (you can just copy and paste the previous bullet points into the email - we want to make sure we connect the dots with your post)

Thanks everyone! We'll fix this quickly with your help.

UPDATE: It seems we've got a major issue with RAM usage, so unless you have a large amount of RAM (16 GB or more) you're going to get lots of issues with crashing currently. We're prioritizing this as well as a major issue we're still investigating that causes a crash when you change levels. More info soon.

UPDATE 2: We're making progress on fixing the issues. Unfortunately we've got a memory leak, which is usually caused by something incredibly specific, so it's a long process of trying to isolate the issue.

UPDATE 3: We've launched an update that addresses memory leaks, a crash related to the Repair button, and fixing hitboxes. UI scaling is our next issue to tackle.

Just launched the game, read help texts, clicked on new game, got a black screen saying "the great library, location unknown" with sirens and laser sounds in the background - and that's it. Game is stuck there, nothing happens. Just sits there forever. When I click the window closes after a few seconds. No error message.

Windows 10-64 Pro, 16GB, Intel i7-4770k 3.5 GHz, Nvidia 970 GTX 359.06

I'd send you the crash files (if there even are any) but since there was no popup at all I don't have the slightest idea where to look for them.

@A.Bogard - hmmm, looks like that bug is unrelated to the memory leak. Argh! We'll keep looking for the solution - thanks for letting us know it's still there. :)

@Snow - oh man, that definitely shouldn't happen. Adding that to our list of things to keep looking into. Can you do us a favor and run the game in windowed mode, and open Task Manager to watch while you play? Watch the Memory tab and tell us how much Close Order is using before and during the crash.

Sorry y'all have had frustrating experiences -- our little game never got as much attention and people playing as it is right now, so we're getting a lot of issues we never knew about. We'll fix them though!

Uh... just in case, my hardware specs: AMD FX8350 Black Edition 4.0 GHz, Windows 10 Pro X64, EVGA Geforce GTX 550Ti 1GB

Is there any way to hand out to you the files that Origin generates as a bug report?

Look in the main folder of the game. There's a folder labeled with the date of the bug or crash.

Hand out the files to info@raconteurgames.com

When I switch to task manager the game loses focus and goes down to barely above 0% CPU usage, not very useful I guess. When I click ESC the mouse cursor gets freed and I can move the game window partially off-screen and see both at the same time. It appears that both memory and CPU usage gradually increase over time, both very slowly. CPU started out at 2.5 or so and I saw it peak up to oer 5% after a few minutes, permanently going up and down within about 2.5% but gradually peaking up higher and higher over time. Memory started at 239.5 and was now at 245.1, not sure that is really climbing. game doesn't actualyl crash now, it just hangs there with the mostly black screen and keeps playing the last second of the sound loop.

There is no crash folder in my game directory so I guess the initial crash didn't have time to register as such. So nothing to send.

This is another issue that we're trying to diagnose. So to confirm - you get stuck at the black screen that says "The Great Library" and can hear the sounds in the background, but it never actually starts?

Could you try playing in windowed mode and see if it still does it?

UPDATE - if you hit Right Mouse Button or F during the "Great Library" black screen, you WILL crash. Let it sit without touching anything, and it should load in fine -- this will be fixed in our new update. :)

It was just a question to read carefully the head of the post, sometimes we're in a rush and we don't see that.

Happens in both full screen and windowed and not pressing any keys.

Responded in the other thread about this - we'll keep looking to see why that's happening, thanks for the feedback! :)
