You might need the Run Time Packe (RTP) if you don't already have it installed. Each RPG Maker has its own RTP, so you need to get the one for the version that the game was made in.

Back then you just needed to install the RTP and then you could run the games without a problem. I'm not sure if this has changed with the Steam release though.

What exactly is the problem you're facing and what's the name of the game?

well...the game doesnt matter, ive seen the problem with plenty other games, i get the 2000?????? error
In case the game is requires a standart RTP even when having one of its own, you can try this:

There should be a file named RPG_RT.ini in the game's folder. You need to open it with Notepad and write a new line:

FullPackageFlag=1

Then try to launch the game.

Same here. I just downloaded Seraphic Blue, but it's just a bunch of loose RPG Maker files that can only be run through RPG Maker 2000. I can't believe a game that popular wasn't formatted as a single file, but oh well. Now I'm wondering if I have to spend $25 to buy a twenty year old RPG Maker program and just cross my fingers and hope it comes with the RTP just to play this game. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you try the instruction from the previous post? Also, you can just launch it with EasyRPG Player. It's even better to play it there, since the game has a lot of really long cutscenes and you can use fastforward option there.
