Squarelands: On Its Own Merits
Squarelands is an easy to play and get into survival sandbox game. For me, it is quite enjoyable to play and I return to it over and over when I'm in between other games. Though I greatly liked the graphics and this got me into playing it, the simple mechanics and the build up towards creating a personal world give it a returning replay value.

I was greatly disappointed in the direction a lot of critics took towards the game, which was both unnecessary and ignorant. Today, many games on Android use the same graphics. I think had the critics not be so discouraging, this game could've had some momentum to keep development going that could build it up to be even better than where it ended.

For me, at this point, my greatest problem with the game is a desire for more growth with the character. The ability to build more complex items and have the items do more things. Perhaps a co-op mode, rather than an mmo, would also make sense, where a small party of friends can come on and help survive on the world, building small towns, perhaps being able to alter signs and stuff so players could read them, take photos of these towns and have fun with them.

Anyways, maybe in the future this game will get a second look and get revamped.
