Black screen on Linux
When I launch the game on Linux it shows a white screen in the bottom right quarter of the screen, what appears to be a brand intro judging by the sound, which then fades to black. Then soft music starts to play but the screen remains black on what I assume is the main menu. No input seems to do anything.

I'm using an Nvidia GTX1060 with proprietary drivers, sytem is up to date (Arch).

Are you playing the native version? if you are, set it to use proton instead.
Yes, the native version. Has the native version never worked?

I have switched to Proton 8 and it works. Played through the prologue without any issues.

I remember playing the original dead island when it first got a native port, But these days a lot of the early ports are better played using Proton. Most of the time you will get better performance on Proton vs the native GL port.
Same here, Arch, nv propri.

Same here, Debian with Nvidia GTX1660S.

Ah, haven't checked this out yet. Which version of the drivers are you using, production or new feature branch? New feature is ahead number wise, but the production drivers were updated last month (Jan 2024). I'm on the production drivers (545.29.02 in Ubuntu Studio LTS 22.04.3). The production drivers are somewhat similar to the Windows Studio drivers in terms of stability; new feature is Game Ready... but this being Linux, probably best to stick to whichever branch has the latest drivers to stay current.

*leaves win11, reboots to Ubuntu*

This does not even start for me. (Without it, I'm getting the sound and boxes described by OP.)

Thanks! I'm curious about other people's experiences here. Maybe I need a newer driver. Well, I can wait, it's not like I payed loads of money for the game. ;)
