Also, at least on the 8/3 version of the game, it doesn't update spirits unless you hover the mouse over something that makes it update like the buy levels button. The reason to rebirth is if enemy health gets stuck as NaN and everything is bugged. Otherwise, you might as well just stockpile spirits forever and maybe mass dump them when a balance patch buffs spirits someday.
That depends. What is the actual measure of progression in this game?
1. every time you beat xx-4 stage you get 1 spirit
2. every 2000 level (accumulation all companion) you get 1 spirit.
Beating the stage means beating the boss and you can't go back from 1-5 to 1-4.
This doesn't work since I'm at zone 23-1 (didn't get the spirit from this zone), I have over 8000 level and I only have 25 spirits (22 from zones and 3 from elsewhere).
1. You can get spirit every zone but the spirit will random it can be x-1,x-2,x-3,x-4 or x-5. (but for me most of the time they drop at x-4).
2. You can get spirit for every 200 level for Haru (Correction for 2000 from all companion).
Hope this calculation can help you guys.
I feel like your conclusion matches up with what Triella said earlier:
If you're leveling up Haru as you go, that would explain why you're getting more spirits at different sub-stages. :o
