I use a 360 controller now to play it, but mouse and keyboard are fine. It's really easy with the controller though.

I beat this one with Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710. I believe that keyboard provides the worst gaming experience in platformers

Xbox, because that's what it was originally made for.

Also mouse control is horrendous.

I played with both a controller and keyboard-mouse, there's not MUCH difference but a gamepad will be more comfortable.
I did everything in the game possible with mouse and keyboard, including the punching minigame for the extra rank. Only during that minigame and a few screens towards the end of the game did playing mouse/keyboard strike me as counterintuitive. But it's not bad at all and the game is not really difficult in any regard.

I normally game with only mouse+keyboard, but there are some games that are just perfect for a controller...I started playing this with M+K and it wasnt bad, but when I switched to a controller on my friends reccomendation it felt SO natural, now it's the only way I can play it.
For the longest time I used a ps3-like controller (alienware controller with ps2/3 layout) but I just got a 360 controller and it works just fine as well

I always use my wired Xbox 360 controller with any kind of platformer. The 360 controller is one of the best investments you can make if you play any games like this on a PC. I've tried the PS3 controller before with some success, but I've always had to wrestle with configurations with the Dualshock 3. You always have to download some extra software to use it. This is not the case with the 360 controller, as it is natively supported on pretty much any controller-enabled game on Steam.

That said, mouse control isn't horrendous in Psychonauts. If you're too much of a cheapskate to buy a controller, you're not really any worse off since it's never essential, but the last few levels in particular have pretty dodgy platforming, which is agonizingly difficult to navigate with WASD. I prefer the controller 100%. However, Psychonauts doesn't change its UI to reflect the controller use (you still get RMB, Q, and E on your HUD), but there is a patch you can download that uses the original Xbox icons. I can't for the life of me remember what it's called.... PsychoPadder or something?

Nintendo Power Glove. It's bad.

The ps3 will give it a sorta ol platforming experience while the 360 will give it a experience notcible feel depending what you remember playing with the controller.

I finished Psychonauts recently for the first time while using a x360 controller. The controls on it felt very clean and polished, especially while on the levitation ball which I used majority of the time.
