Are there any settings/tricks to get it to work?
Use Pinnacle Game Profiler. I had the same problem you're having when I tried to use my PS3 controller (Registered under DS3 Tool as a 360 controller) to play Rayman 3. The buttons were recognized by the game but the analog sticks weren't.
Anyway, download Pinnacle Game Profiler, download the profile for Psychonauts from "PGF Download Menu" (Just search Psychonauts in the Download Menu and select the first thing that comes up), select the Psychonauts profile and then make sure your controller is selected in the "Device:" bar, then minimize Pinnacle (DON'T close it!) and then start Psychonauts from Steam. I guarantee that it'll work. I don't have Psychonauts installed yet so I wouldn't know firsthand, but if Pinnacle was able to solve my problem with Rayman 3, it'll solve your problem with Psychonauts!
Have fun, dude!
