Psychonauts Patch - Linux and Mac Update
Hey Guys! As soon as this message is posted (or slightly after) you should see a new version of Psychonauts go live! I'm here to tell you about what's new in this patch, and also give an explanation.

Firstly, this is not the final patch. This one focuses mainly on the audio problems and general stability for Linux. The next patch will be coming hopefully in March, and they will continue until we feel that all versions of the game are in parity. Please report any issues you may encounter here in this thread, or to our support mail inbox.

What is known fixed in this build:

Linux: We tested on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and I personally feel that the game is in a really good state. Audio was clear and crisp, didn't crash, and it felt like the true Psychonauts experience.

Mac: Mac is the platform that will have the most focus in upcoming patches. The audio issues were the main focus for this patch, and as far as I tested were fixed. Unfortunately, a majority of the graphical issues are still in the game. The next patch will focus on these graphical issues primarily.

PC: This patch shouldn't have affected anyone on PC, aside from making you realize it's been a while since you've played through Psychonauts. Hey, that actually sounds like a good idea right now, doesn't it...

Just finished the game without too much problems. I encountered only one crash: I was shielding a knife from the knife thrower in the meat circus. I don't know if this situation would regularly result in a crash, because after the crash I just dodged the knifes :)

Ubuntu 13.04 64bit with AMD card drivers 13.4

..... what about the sound during the cut scenes, i get nothing on linux, come on it's the most imporatnd part of the game!

update. fixed my sound problem, i had wrong setting in my sound card channeling, after i fix the channel levels and set openal to 40 instead of 60(it seams it can only work with up to 4 channels) i got sound out of the cut scenes!

Just purchased this in the Humble Bundle and can't get it to start. Whenever the game starts the screens goes black for some time and then drops back to the Steam application (from which I start it).

My system is a MacBook with an Intel Core i5, 8Gig Memory, OS X 10.8.3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000

Is there a way to modify the startup (for instance to start it in windowed mode)? Either by pressing some "magic key" (option or so) or adding some startup-options in the properties of the game?

Try runnning Steam from a terminal, then open the game, wait for it to crash, and look at the output. Might give you a hint.

Hi Guys,
I recently got the Humble Bundle and I installed the Linux Version here on Steam and it
crashes on me directly after the intro with the following output:

I have a Lenovo T420 with NVidia Optimus, and other games run reasonable well here on Linux.

My Distribution is OpenSuSE 12.3, I use bumblebee for Optimus support but the game crashes in both cases (using integrated and discrete graphics card).

I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 with an intel HD4000 GPU and I can't use any lower resolution than my monitor's native one (1440x900) without the image being stretched out since every other resolution is 4:3. No other 16:10 aspect ratio resulution nor an 16:9 one is available at the menu. Is there anything I can do to force the aspect ratio on another resolution (like you can do in Trine 2) ? I cannot play at 1440x900 since the GPU doesn't seem to be powerful enough.

The streched out image sounds more like a monitor thing, you should check if there's a "4:3 in wide" button or config on your monitor's menues.

Yes I did, but the game looks crappier than it already does at max quality, and I'd rather play it at a lower resolution with the highest possible quality (With a little FSAA, though). At 1024x768 it runs flawlessly.

I found that, indeed, the resolutions shown in the menu are the ones that seem to be supported by my monitor according to xrandr configuration, and the only 16:10 resolution it seems to support is 1440x900. I was hoping there was something to force this aspect ratio with any resolution.

Thanks. Tried that. That gave only a message that "some error occured". Starting Psychonauts directly gave a bit more output but the bus error in the end is no help at all I guess (and of course I'm not sure whether this is exactly what happens when starting the program from inside Steam ... behaviour looks similar):

anyone also experiencing the audio hiccups in the pc version? Is there some fix for that?
FabKilly May 20, 2013 @ 3:44pm
I'm happy to see that all major flaws (i.e. fire effects) in Mac version are gone :)
At the moment (I've completed the first levels) the only ptoblem seems to be Oleander's projection at the beginning of Coach's training mission.. not a big problem imho

Just encountered some crashs at the mailboat scene in dark mood. It crashs often when you play the scene and then get on the boat to the next scene (You could also use the light scene to get there, so no problem).
In the next scene (the one with the water and the ladder there), I had 2 crashs when this was in dark mood. But finally I was able to collect the figments and finish the scene.
So I don't know, perhaps crashs are related to switching to the dark water/ladder scene.

I'm having the same problems in Gloria's level with a Mac :/

Also I've noted some graphical isseu in the fight with Kochamara (no lasers)

I just launched the game yesterday after playing for a long time. Now the save game from the standalone (non-steam) Linux version is in my Steam version. I skipped a number of the achievements! Help.

Nevermind, it has added the save game from the standalone game the Steam saves are still there.

The game runs fantastic in Windows but on Ubuntu 12.04 (with the latest NVIDIA drivers) I get a choppy framerate when moving the camera and I'm around in-game characters. Vsync on and off produce the same results. Anyone else having this issue?
