Psychonauts Patch - Linux and Mac Update
Hey Guys! As soon as this message is posted (or slightly after) you should see a new version of Psychonauts go live! I'm here to tell you about what's new in this patch, and also give an explanation.

Firstly, this is not the final patch. This one focuses mainly on the audio problems and general stability for Linux. The next patch will be coming hopefully in March, and they will continue until we feel that all versions of the game are in parity. Please report any issues you may encounter here in this thread, or to our support mail inbox.

What is known fixed in this build:

Linux: We tested on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and I personally feel that the game is in a really good state. Audio was clear and crisp, didn't crash, and it felt like the true Psychonauts experience.

Mac: Mac is the platform that will have the most focus in upcoming patches. The audio issues were the main focus for this patch, and as far as I tested were fixed. Unfortunately, a majority of the graphical issues are still in the game. The next patch will focus on these graphical issues primarily.

PC: This patch shouldn't have affected anyone on PC, aside from making you realize it's been a while since you've played through Psychonauts. Hey, that actually sounds like a good idea right now, doesn't it...

This is cool and all, but how come the game still doesn't appear as a Linux title from the store?
I just got Steam working on Debian and would like a great game to test it out, but I wasn't there during the Humble Bundle. Thus, having bought the Windows version, will clicking on "install" here on my Debian laptop get me the Linux version or was it a one time only offer?
Even if it was, I'm still saving some money for The Cave, though.

The achievements on Linux don't work - also there's no steam cloud sync...

Yep, that's how Steamplay works.

i just loaded this game up for the first time since i bought it a while ago on my mac and it seems to be incredibly laggy once the player controlled movement begins. no change of resolution or FSAA etc helps at all. it happens when there is a deeper draw distance.

its a mid 2012 13inch mbp with 16g of ram.

Cool, thanks! Now I know I won't be just wasting my bandwidth!

Does the advice under "I’m on a Mac and my save games from before June 4, 2012 disappeared. How do I get them back?" in this FAQ[www.doublefine.com] help?

I see the camera spin problem too with xbox wireless controller with default x joystick drivers from ubuntu repos. I have seen this problem before, basically a trigger button axis is detected as always being pressed down. The big problem is it will never let you rebind the keys because of it always being triggered. Also I'm not getting shadows. Thanks for working on the Linux build so far though!

I ran into other issues with my joystick, but they can be resolved by opening up the control settings and adjusting the settings.

Edit: Found another bug. It seems if you change resolution to a lower resolution when playing, rendering errors fill the additional space between the two resolutions in screenshots. This may be a bug in the Linux steam client, but you should look into it, and if it's on the Steam side of things, contact Valve.

Any word on when patches will make Psychonauts playable on the Mac? Or at least what the progress is, etc.?

and when we will see linux version?

There is a Linux version on Steam. I've played it and it works for me, despite of some graphical glitches. The reason it's not tagged as a Linux game in the store is probably because it's considered a beta version because of these issues.

Ubuntu 12.04 64 Bit with Nvidia Card here (Driver Version 310.14):

Ok. Game finally runs great for me and it seems I can continue playing after putting it aside for a long time.
The only remaining problems I encounter at the moment (just finished milkman conspiracy) are:
- No shadow for Raz (and other things?). This is the most annoying as it makes jumps a bit hard to estimate, but not really gamebreaking at the moment. I at least think there should be a shadow, right?
- Pyrokinesis (don't know if this is the right word, but I mean the thing that burns stuff) has some minor graphical glitch: Effects are some kind of square tiles.
- Lake at night has also some grphical glitches in the distance
- Finally Steam Achievements don't seem to work (as other people also wrote)

Ubuntu 12.04 64 Bit with Nvidia Card (Driver Version 310.14):

Just encountered some crashs at the mailboat scene in dark mood. It crashs often when you play the scene and then get on the boat to the next scene (You could also use the light scene to get there, so no problem).
In the next scene (the one with the water and the ladder there), I had 2 crashs when this was in dark mood. But finally I was able to collect the figments and finish the scene.
So I don't know, perhaps crashs are related to switching to the dark water/ladder scene.
