Randomly crashing between loading levels [SOLVED!]

At least it autosaves correctly before it crashes, but this keeps happening and I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Also, I'm using Big Picture, so maybe that could be what's causing it?

Okay now it's becoming a problem because it's crashing more frequently now, and it's always during load times. wtf?

Yeah mine crashed during a loading time. The next time it crashed was in a dialogue... It just started too I don't know why.

I've been getting the same issue here. I don't have Big Picture running but this game has been randomly crashing during loading screens since I first tried to use the transit system. It got a lot worse today (crashed on every loading screen so far) so now i'm trying to figure out the cause. I guess i'll let you know if I figure anything out.

Apparently the problem is a simple matter of the game being old enough that it needs to be run in Windows 95 compatibility mode. I've been testing that option out for a couple hours now and havn't had a single crash since.

yeah I realized this but forgot to reply that my problem was solved :3 sorry guys

I didn't run it in windows 95, because the manual says the system requirements can go up to Windows XP/2000, and so I set it to XP, and now I have no problems!

This game keeps crashing on me and I tried to change the compatibility mode and nothing changed, it still keeps crashing. Steam wont answer me and tells me to go ♥♥♥♥ myself once again. I hate this place.

I'm not sure what you were expecting from Steam in that regard. I assume you tried that one fix and just immediately requested a refund (since you didn't mention trying anything else and a refund is the only level I can see Steam being involved in this issue.) You should be well aware that it's a general policy of theirs (as it is with most companies that sell games let alone digital distributors) to not issue refunds except in extreme cases.

If you have any kind of experience with PC gaming you should also be well aware of the fact that one of its greatest weaknesses is having a wide variety of problems that can sometimes take quite a while to figure out. If you take some time to work with others here on the forums or those of the developers then you might actually be able to get it working.

I wish I could help you more than that but since compatibility mode solved my crashing issue I stopped researching it after that. Good luck getting it fixed.

changing the compatibility settings solved my crashing but now it plays in a windowed mode, is there any way I can change this back to fullscreen?

Try in the ingame settings maby?

I know I am commenting years later on this but when I turn Compatibility mode on my game stutters like crazy.

Nevermind, Figured it out! It was borderless window causing the stutter and some crashing.

Yes I know it's thousands of years later but I'll comment anyway. The problem for me was MSI Afterburner. Idk what's wrong with this program but it makes so many games crash. I found out about this problem with A Short Hike that also crashes when MSI is running. Really odd. So, kill afterburner with task manager and close everything related to it then run the game.

After trying disable and closed my afterburner/MSI it worked, thanks DanilOcelot, everyone that is using this program try closing it and run again the game.

Holy crap, having wanting to replay this game forever but always getting turned off by all the crashing and trying tons of fixes it turned out this was my issue all along, I always have afterburner running and never had any issues with it, but disabled, the game works perfectly now. Take an award my good man. Now back to camp I go.
