Trapped in Sasha's Shooting Gallery without Mental Lock
So, I have been unable to 'lock my mental focus' in order to pass the shooting gallery, and since then I have gathered that Mental Focus is a PSI skill I need to acquire ahead of time in order to pass. Is that correct? If so, how do I get out of the shooting gallery in order to acquire the skill? It seems you have to pass in order to get out, but like I said, I don't have the required PSI. My past save is in the shooting gallery, so I can't just revert to an old save. Am I missing a obvious way to get out of the gllery without finishing the challenge? Thanks in advance for any insight!

They are referring to the lock-on feature when they say mental focus. You used it earlier in learning how to use psi blast. I believe the default key on the keyboard is Shift.

^the default key is indeed shift, just to confirm

I tried shift a number of times, but it hasn't worked. just to be clear, i am on the second task where i am supposed to shoot the targets in a particular order. i have tried pressing shift simultanesou with shooting, as well as simply before. either way, i get the same instruction from Sasha to lock my focus. I checked me my control panel and LockOn is indeed assigned to 'shift'. I am at a loss.

Ah ok, I had a little trouble there as well. In order to shoot them in the right order, if I remember correctly I think you lock on, then use A and D to move the lock on to one of the other objects in order to shoot them in the right order. Try that. It might work.

Use 4 and 6 on the numpad to switch which target you are selecting. Also try the mouse. That is your camera, which is what you use to switch targets. Either one works, and the mouse is probably the better option.

Hmm, I tried that but it didn't work. I get through the first task where you just shoot. When I need to do the precision shooting, I am able to aim at the right target (their is a pink glow) and successfully shoot it, but before I have a chance to shoot target two Sasha tells me, 'Good shooring Raz, but you are making it harder than it needs to be. Lock your mental focus.' Text comes up of the screen telling me to hold down the '5' key while shooting with the mouse. I can aim and shoot that way, but apparently I haven't actually 'locked on' to anything. When I have tried to shift the target with A & D or 4 & 6 there is just no response at all. Hope that makes sense. Thank for the help!

When I say 4 and 6, I mean on the pad to the right of the keyboard, not the ones above the letters. The computer counts them as two different keysets. Make sure you lock on with your lock on button, there will be a little moving icon over your target when you do.

Looking in the controls, the "5" that it is showing you is the gamepad's button designated as 5. Look in your controls under bindings and scroll down until you find lock-on and look at the button it tells you you can use for it. If you only have "5" bound, select one of the spots and press left shift. Edit: Even if you don't, you might want to switch the one that says "5" with left shift. It wouldn't be as confusing.

Hey I know it’s been a while but just in case someone else has the problem. It’s shift and whatever your computer had hot key for “look left” and “look right”. I had to change mine to work as it defaults to the joycon keys. I was using A and D to walk so I just set my keyboard arrow keys as “look left, right, up, down”
Hope this helps now that psychonauts 2 is out some more people might have this problem
