How do I stop the camera from spinning on Steam Deck?
I felt like playing this game again after a while since I got the Steam Deck, but I was not expecting the camera to spin so heavily. I was just checking in to see if it would work and grab the Christmas Shopping achievement, but I almost went insane. Especially, since my existing save file didn't carry over through a cloud save. (Does this game even support cloud saves?) I suffered through the entire tutorial level and got the achievement while dealing with this spinning. I never want to do that again. How do I stop the camera from spinning?

Edit: Solved. I also came up with a way to deal with another issue too. See my post below. (I can't mark my own post as an answer).

The problem I'm experiencing with this is that I can't access any menu in order to see if there's any way to tinker with the keybinding in hopes of fixing it. I find the game unplayable in this swirly state!

I'm in the same boat: excessive screen spin. There are some community controller setting that claim to solve this, but not for me.

If you try one and it works, please let us know.

Try changing to proton experimental. No more camera spin and cloud save from pc is able to load in my steam deck too

Now that I've finally come back and 100% completed the game, I figured I'd pop back in here and share how I figured this out. First of all, switching to Proton Experimental immediately fixed the camera spin. I'm not sure if it's guaranteed to work for everyone so maybe try experimenting with out other versions of Proton. (I couldn't find any others that didn't also crash the game).

However, a new problem cropped up. Returning to the game after my first game session, I realized that suddenly the game wouldn't accept a single input from the Steam Deck. Why? Well, every single time you return to the title screen, it unbinds a bunch of controls including the controls that make the game function with both Steam Deck and controllers in general. (I have not tested if this still happens if you just force close the game without going to the title screen, so that might be worth trying). I tried some computer to controller community templates so I could just play the game without having to worry about it, but every single one of them had massive issues. So, here's what I had to do.

Step 1: Switch to a community layout that lets you get past the start screen and into the pause menu. This layout also needs to let you control the mouse with the trackpad.
Step 2: Use the mouse-bound trackpad to navigate into the bindings menu, then hit Default followed by Ok.
Step 3: Back out of the pause menu and then switch back to the game's official controller layout.
After I did that, the game worked flawlessly until the next time I returned to the title screen.
The main annoyance is that you have to do this every time you start up the game.

There's probably a better way out there (No matter what, you aren't getting anything but keyboard keys to show up in the in-game instructions without modifying game files, for example), but this is what worked for me.

Stuff like this really serves as a reminder of how desperately this game needs a remaster. Or hell, just a simple facelift to get it working right. There's really no reason Double Fine shouldn't be able to fix these issues considering this is a digital game. It would take effort no doubt, but I feel like having a game be this broken and not fixing it is ultimately just shooting themselves in the foot.
