What is your average fps count on the game?
In the original .exe (the one you can find in the directory), has some
software options in the proprieties.
Try adding one, or removing it if it is enabled.
Have you ever tried to spend the cobwebs in Ford Cruller's lair?
It's the only "logical reason" I could find, since you said it happened just as
you reached Boyd.
If you already did, try again. Maybe there is some kind of code that prevents the cobweb duster from collecting too many cobwebs (dunno).
Is not the first time happening, and is not even the first time I encounter someone with the same problem (yeah my memory is broken).
Sadly, there is no real "solution" to this. People, just like you, usually load the file again to fix it. Or, since someone says it's permanent, you have to reset the entire save file and make another one.
Sorry comrade.
But careful! Cheats may spoil you some game mechanics and/or story!
