Demo vs EA Captain Art
Don't like the new EA captain art at all, major step back.

Yeah they feel out of place. Previous portraits with this discounted pixel art like aesthetics looked much better.
Agreed. But its probable they changed the art because people were noticing that the portraits were too "pixel perfect" with their inspirations.

Most of the names are captains from other games.

J. Luc, is likely Jean Luc Picard.
Foehammer, is likely the pilot in Halo 1.
Keyes, is likely Miranda Keyes in Halo 1/2.
Holden, is likely from The Expanse.
Meh, End of the day a portrait I see when selecting doesn't matter, and as long as they're not using GenAI to make it. I'm cool with it. Put a photo of a goldfish up there for as much as it makes a difference gameplay wise.

I'm pretty sure you'd complain if it was crudely drawn MS paint stick figures.
Looks like Husker and Kara are likely from Battlestar Galactica and Buck, might be a reference to Buck Rogers or to Buck in ODST / Halo 5... as he is voiced by Nathan Fillion, who was the captain of The Firefly.

Are you kidding me. That'd be absolutely hilarious. Like legit, left hand MS Paint stick figures. I'd want that in the actual steam page screenshots. That's actually the whole point of liking small indie studios who DON'T slop their games up with GenAI. You get to see fun stuff like that.
Hilarious and fun may be good for free titles, but it shows a lack of professionalism for game development.

Its like in olden days of text to speech used in video games, long before GenAI, to give voice to text boxes. People hated it in purchased titles. But tolerated it in a free title.
