I'm also curious to see if either the IOS or PC sales spark enough interest to do anything with the IP... but I have my doubts.
The reason you see so much FF7 stuff is because... first off, the original version of FF6 sold just over 3 million world wide where FF7 sold over 9 million world wide.
Then, after that, the PSX port of FF6 sold only about 80 thousand coppies even though it had Chrono Trigger included, and this pretty much sqashed the IP until the GBA port came out, but it only sold a quarter million coppies.
On the other hand, the PC port of FF7 sold over 2 million coppies, even though it was... a sloppy and buggy port. That port selling so well spawned the idea to do something more with the IP, so they made FF7 DoC which was basically a low quality 3rd person shooter with FF7 skins and story bits, and that sold 1.5 million copies.
Then they make Crisis Core on the PSP at a time where the PSP wasn't selling well, and not only did it sell 2.5 million copies, but the PSP started doing better the very same day that CC released.
When SE tries to do anything with FF7 it sells and people praise it. When they try to do anything with FF6 people cry and it doesn't sell.
That's why we probably won't see anything other than the occasional remaster/port every 5-15 years or so.
EDIT: also, I think ff7 remake is going great. Altough FF6 will always be a better game, people who cry about remaking the game are some sort of purists who are part of the problem, not part of the solution. If the art values are good (story, scenario, characters, music) then i see absolutely no problem in updating the gameplay to make it more suitable for today's gaming standards. Quite the opposite though, it enhances the features that really matters (story, music, scenario, characters). It's the only thing I wish for the masterpice ff6.
I also do not think there will be a FF16 for along, long, long, ass time. They will move on to remakeing the previous FF games after FF15 release
