Basicly GBA = better looking (in some opinions)...

Steam = fancy bestiary (I think the GBA one was like the PS1 one? I forget now... Either way this one is kinda fancy) + auto battle + achivements...

Otherwise pretty much the same game..

If you don't mind the graphics there is no reason to not get the steam one... It has some issues but they can be worked around./overlooked..

Well depends, from what I understand, the GBA has different music and such and this one has different sprites so it is whichever you prefer. This one also has trading cards and achievements plus a few other quirks where the GBA doesn't. Plus being on steam, it is a bit more convenient, for me at least.

The Steam version has superior sound to the GBA version. A lot of people are harping negatively on the sprites/ui graphics in the Steam version...

But, the music of Final Fantasy VI is far more important to me than preserving the tiny 16x24 sprites of the SNES version.

visuals wasn't big deal for me in SNES era, take music over it any day GBA is total trash in comparsion plus this version has added stuff from GBA

How it looks really doesn't impact on gameplay whatsoever... there is a lot more to enjoy in this game then that. To be honest I don't mind this port one bit. Sure it has it's problems, but they're not so earth shattering as people put them out to be.

every version had its problems, original has translation Errors and bad lighting
GBA had terrible music, cut out scenes
PSone had terrible Load times
This version Sprites are to colourful or not detaled
sorry this isn't remake its more remastery think its done pretty well, game is in tact, combat is solid, music is top notch.

Does the steam version have the bonus stuff like the GBA version. Dragons den spirit shrine and new summons?

Yes, it has both the Dragons' Den and Soul Shrine bonus dungeons.

Excellent, Thanks for the response! Still saddened by the low quality sprites bleh. But still worth every penny.
If you like the sprites in this one, then this is the best version. If you don't, then stick with the SNES version. The GBA version is garbage, and not an improvement at all.

That's good news about the two dungeons. Does this one also keep the fixes that the GBA one had? specifically:
- how they fixed the evasion stat so that it actually DOES something (and consequently, the blind status actually does something)
- did they fix the vanish/doom cheese bug?
- did they fix the error where Shadow being hit by the rippler blue magic caused him to lose Interceptor forever?
- did they fix the psycho-cyan glitch?
- did they fix the handful of bugs that plagued Relm's sketch ability and could cause your game to crash?
- did put the scene of Celes' torture back in? (was left out of GBA version)
- (GBA ADDED THIS ERROR) did they fix the bug that causes any attack that does the imp status to auto-miss if the creature is immune to imp? (Example: in the GBA version, if using the bad breath blue magic against an opponent immune to imp, it causes the entire attack to miss instead of just inflicting the other ailments.)

Oh, and also the added espers from the GBA version?

If you get a GBA version, you can walk down the street and still play the game.
