FF6: SNES vs Steam
Which version is better?
I have this stream version but I also have the original version that I can play on my modded HDMI Super Nintendo. :steamhappy:

GBA. The Dragon's Den is not to be skipped.

I prefer the combat system from the SNES but yeah the new content Dragon Den is crazy so far.

I'm not willing to give up music quality for the content, so this is the best version to me despite the flaws. Just be warned there is a CRITICAL save file corruption bug so always frequently save in a new slot so you can roll back to an earlier one if it hits you.

This version is made for mobile phones and they butchered it because mobile games suck and then they ported it to PC, meanwhile the SNES game is the best game ever made so... the SNES version is fantastic and this version is bad.

.. what? How long has this bug been out there? If it's too long, it almost sounds like active sabotage.

The bug has been around since the port first launched. It's just rare enough most don't get it but common enough several people post about it every sale.

what exactly do you mean by that?

The game has some nicer looking colors and visuals. But the charecter designs and the UI are just awful. With that said the SNES version had censor ship issues so it's far from perfect either. I hear the GBA is pretty good but never played it.

I have found some patched versions with reverted censorship play able on a flash cart.

Some of those went for really dry dialog in my opinion that prioritized literal translation rather than localization. I appreciate what the fans did, but I think the official modern translations are much better.

The Celes scene censorship was actually added due to some kidnapping stuff going on in Japan when the GBA version was released, if I recall.

They all have their positives and negatives, the original sprites are always the biggest plus for me and it's really the definitive version of the game.

That being said, the Steam version having cloud saves, quick saves, achievements, screenshots, Dragon's Den, and just being on my PC through the ease of access with Steam makes it the version I'm most likely to play now or any time in the future.

I say the SNES version is in general better than this one. More pleasant to play on a controller. However, the old translation is bad (fans will usually die on this hill), and many bugs affect the gameplay negatively. The best solution is to grab one of the many fan translation and bugfix patches made by the community for the SNES version and play it on the SNES. I can recommend the "relocalization project'. It's up on romhacking.net.

I agree (mostly because of Nostalgia).

Then don't agree.

The GBA/IOS/Steam version add a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ more content than just end game dungeons... Major bug fixes like the evasion bug, superior translation, extremely useful espers that they game sorely needed, 3 extra cool bosses, more items to gamble in colosseum, ability to get more than one lightbringer and ultima weapon, and probably other things I'm forgetting.

For them to just port this off of snes is retarded.
