Guardian not attacking Gau

So I am battling the Guardian using Cyan, Locke, Gau, and Celes, 3 of them die except gau. I use one of Gau's attacks and yet the guardian is not attacking. I have been waiting for the battle to be over but it is still going. How do I fix this?

This depends on something. The first times you encounter it, it's not meant to be defeated. If you are in the final dungeon something is wrong, but if you aren't just run away.

If it was the former you probably figured that out by now though.

I am aware. But Guardian wont attack Gau for some reason. I just want to get thru it. Does it only attack when a character use attack?

So you are in the final dungeon? If so that sounds like a bug.

If not, you simply cannot get through that way.
