As others have said, DS4 is a good program for PS4 controllers. Simple and easy install.

Honestly for me I just plug it in and it works just fine. If it is not working, you may need to go into your steam controller settings.

They seem to have it optimized that way yes. It is rarely required, but sometimes it helps.

Dual shock is possible, beat the game with only the ps4 controller. (switched to Xbox though)
