Forever-missable stuff?
My default question for every Final Fantasy I buy: Is there anything important for getting 100% in this game that is missable? If so, could you provide me this info as spoilerfree as possible?
I would like to play this game without a walkthrough, but after my latest experiences with III, IV and V, it's very difficult to resist :swdboozer:

Thanks in advance!

I have a few, as many spoiler free as I could (there's LOADS of spoiler ones tho :Silence:)

There is a point of no return halfway in the game where once you continue, everything in the first half becomes missable, be careful of this point (and I'll tell you who the boss is beforehand so you know where it is if ya want, not much plot for it~) :ffvighost:

There is a bestiary in this game, try to fight as many monsters as you can, as many of them will never appear again once you leave an area. Also, talk to many people, some of them will fight you, and are a one time deal only.

In the final dungeon, send "Strago" down "Route 1" there's something there for him that only he can get, is nowhere else, and is a global event (as in it only happens once).

Don't sell the initail equipment off of your party, as many of them (leather shield, armor, etc) you can never buy anywhere in the game.

Look in every corner of an area! Many you can't go back to, and lots have secret weapons or armor that can only be found in that there.

Buy a Bandana... Just do it.

A certain moogle can only learn a "Dance" underwater... Make sure you remember this as you only have certain chances to get it.

Many of "Gau's" "Rages" are missable, you really should read the first part of the Gau Bible (in the Guides section, by ChrisH36), as there are specific ways to get them, and there are 256 of them!!!

You will have a choice later in the game to chose between the Ragnarok Sword and the Ragnarok "Esper" (you'll learn soon enough~), take the "Esper" as in the Steam and GBA versions of FFVI, you can steal the sword off a certain enemy late into the game... You can never get the "Esper" again if you don't pick it.

Hopefully this helps! I sure as hell would've loved this when played this game back in 1994!

The water dance is a big one to remember although it is a pain since it involves alot of backtracking afterwards. Pretty sure there is a snow dance too that only has limited encounter areas too if memory serves right, i only remember like 2 snow plain encounter fields.

The thing is with the snow one You can go back to Narshe in the WOR, meaning you can still get it later

But you can get the water one later in the game, you can fight Leviathan underwater using the South Figaro Ferry, but its your last chance, after that the Dance is unobtainable.

So, I finally started playing and just aquired Gau. Will I be able to get all his Rages in the end at the Veldt, or get all possible before the point of no return?
I'm already keeping track of encounters and check them so I won't miss any, but I actually wanna play and not farm the Rages (yet).

Doberman, Valeor, Wild Rat, Darkside, Specter, and Eukaryote are all the enemies that don't appear in the second half of the game. But there's a catch to these... They don't have bestiary entries. :ffvighost: Plus, they look EXACTLY the same as normal enemies!!!! But, you can find all but one in the Narshe Mines at any point in the first half, most of them are obtained if you purposely fail the "Maze Light Game" when you're heading to the Moogles.

But the one, "Doberman" can only be found by kicking the chest in the Imperial Camp. That's it, didn't kick it? It's gone forever. But here's the problem... If you have Gau, you just passed that point... So think carefully if you fought a dog there...

As a side note, Itangir and Grenade are NOT found in the Narshe Mines, and are insanely difficult to encounter in the second half of the game. Do yourself a favor and go find them before the halfway point. The Grenade is a Silver colored version of the normal Bomb enemy from many different Final Fantasys and is found inthe "Bomb Forest" right across the river from Veldt, just south of the Phantom Forest across the mountain range. The Itangir is located on the Triangle Island in the upper right corner of the map But BE WARNED this thing has 36,000 health!!!! And is stronger than most enemies in the Final Dungeon!!! IT WILL TURN YOUR PARTY INTO A MINCEMEAT!!!! :Silence:There is one VERY particular way to slay it tho, but its really hard, and I'll tell you if you don't want to solve the battle yourself~

Exactly for stuff like the Doberman, I've used a little guide I found that tells me what I can permanently miss in an area. Happend in prior Final Fantasys two times too much :D
But if I found and defeated an enemy once, will it be available in the Veldt after the PonR?

As soon as you encounter something, it's available on the Veldt forever - or more specifically, the formation it appeared in. You don't even need to defeat it; running away is fine too. As someone mentioned earlier, take a look at ChrisH's "Gau Bible" if you need to double-check anything. There's also a walkthrough tailored towards Gau in there, and some tips about mechanics that can help in obtaining them once you're ready for that. Just be careful not to read the walkthrough section at the end too much, since there are spoilers.
