Bartz is the official localization of his name. It's just a mistake.

No, the official romanization of his name is Battsu. Only RPGe ever called him Butz. In every official English translation, even the terrible one from PS1, it's been Bartz.

We can only assume it was a case of laziness on the part of who ever did the trailer. They obviously didn't bother to make an animation for both variations of his names.

In game, it's Bartz.

Don't you get the chance to name everyone yourself though? Shouldn't be an issue.

Nope. The PS1 release used Butz. It was changed to Bartz in the GBA port and Dissidia.

Yes I am pretty sure you can rename them all what ever you want.. So Butz will be Butz and Reina will be Reina..

In-game, the PS1 version didn't have his name at all. In the manual, it had Bartz.
