Why should I (not to be a jerk, but wasn't it Nomure/Nomura who came up with the concept? or am I wrong)? I don't think it's bad, but it''s just not right. It looks like he deliberately refuses to give actual color to characters (look at Bartz's hair!) that should have some.
I personally think he should stick to logos, I'm fine with those being inacurate.
Characters drawn by amano look like real ART. Not like anime crap.
CONCEPT ART. THAT'S HIS JOB, TO CONCEPTUALIZE HOW THEY LOOK, NOT OFFICIAL PORTRAITS.
And "anime crap" is your opinion (not the "oh, it's your opinion, so you're wrong" thing that Steam users spam, the "oh someone thinks differently, that's ok" kind) and no one was suggesting it! No one cares about anyone's taste in art style! In fact, what IS your favorite art style, anyway? I'm curious. And no, I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm legit wondering.
Since he made some art for FF3, can be comparable to FF5 with the job classes. Check this out.

the hair colors in the portraits don't even match the hair colors on the sprites...and it took me a long time to get used to the sprites, it looks like they got the same guy to do them that they got for final fantasy dimensions. ff dimensions felt weird to play, almost like it wasn't a "real" ff game but rather an ff clone done on rpg maker.
edit actually looking at the store page it looks like the same artwork as the ios version. you can see it right there look at faris's portrait and look at her sprite. her sprite has bright pinkish purplis hair, while the potrait has this kind of blondeish whitish hair.
and lenna's sprite has pink hair, while the portrait has white hair
The portraits are Amano's concept art. Tons of his art has expressionless pale characters with white/blond hair. I affectionately call them Amano's sleepy albinos. For FFVI his art was used in the original release, and they added color matching the characters. Here they added the portraits without recoloring them.
There is a NES de-make of Final Fantasy VII is being made by japanese fans!
Proof http://demake.web.fc2.com/
And it has two portrait modes! Amano's mode and Nomura's mode!
So if you prefer anime style, play with Nomura's portraits.
If you prefer Amano's albinos, then play with Amano's portraits!
Would be awesome, if Final Fantasy V had same.
Portrait mode with pink haired Lenna, and mode with sleepy bored Lenna ^__^
Though i would still play with sleepy Lenna ^__^
