seems to have an hp nerf
it makes the game very difficult because i have to heal more than in the earlier versions. if they had nerfed the damage the enemy do as well it would have been better.

Dunno about this, didn't have much issues regarding HP or amount of damage dealt by enemies. Leveled my characters to 99 and all got 9999 HP (freelancers/mimes). Also if I'm not mistaken isn't the starting HP the exact same as the GBA? since HP growth is fixed throughout the entire game as far as i know.

hp growth on earlier levels is rather low. my characters is on level 16 as freelancers and is below 500 hp.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Interesting. This is my first time playing the game. But so far it's the easiest FF i've ever played. Could be my setup, but so far all of the bosses have been a little underwhelming. I know this doesn't necessarily relate to HP, but I'm finding this to be the most balanced (tough but not too hard) game in series(I'm 30... yet somehow never played any of the games in the series, and started a numbered run a few years ago - on 5 now, just got Krile in my team).

3 and 4 were brutal however.

Well the thing is freelancers get better as you master jobs, so they suck early. master monk = highest stamina and strength bonus on freelancers. Master oracle = highest magic bonus on freelancers. Master thief = highest agility bonus on freelancers. Otherwise you are left with base stats, which are fixed for every character between 23 and 28 (bartz with highest strength and 2nd highest stamina, galuf with highest stamina and 2nd highest strength, Faris overall pretty balanced and lenna highest magic stat and average in the rest).

HP's unchanged from any other version of FF5. The game absolutely does have a low HP curve.

i know that mastering certain jobs will increase freelancer stats because i have played the earlier versions. i played this game just like those versions but i got in more trouble.

4 is only brutal if you're playing the 3D remake. The original version is pretty average difficulty.

I did play the 3D remake of both 3 and 4. I found them both brutally difficult especially late game.

5 is starting to get hard... my jobs right now are:
Bartz - Knight with monk's 30% + Hp ability
Krile - Blue Mage with full summoner ability mastered
Lenna - White Mage (+10% hp)
Faris - Ninja with mastered time magic ability

Bartz has the Brave blade and does 2000 a swing, Krile is very versatile and the summons are so helpful, Lenna is healer, Faris has dancing blade and twin blade... so if she attacks i can sometimes do 6000+ damage or use her to slow enemies and hastaga my entire party (plus comet in a pinch).

This team has been killing it for the last few hours. I think it's just that after playing 3, and recently Bravely Default, I'm getting better at RPG's with job systems (which I've typically disliked).

my characters are on level 18 as freelancers and below 500 hp.

Yep, that's normal. HP in FF5 is calculated as follows:

B = base HP, S = stamina. Bonuses to Stamina from equipment are not counted.

HP = (B * (S + 32)) / 32

Base HP is 20 at level 1, 25 at level 2, 30 at level 3, then increases by 10 every level until level 10 (where it is 100), 20 every level until level 30 (where it is 500), 30 every level until 35 (where it is 650), 40 every level until 40 (where it is 850), 50 every level until 45 (where it is 1100), 60 every level until 60 (where it is 2000), and then 50 again every level after that until 99.

At level 18, you would have a base HP of 260, and as a freelancer, stamina ranging from 25 (Lenna) to 28 (Galuf). That would calculate out to 479/463/487/471 HP for Bartz/Lenna/Galuf/Faris, respectively, give or take a point depending on how the game does its rounding.

These figures have been the same in every release of the game (I pulled the formula from an FAQ written 11 years ago).

(Note that your stamina might vary if you've mastered a job already.)
