3 and 4 were brutal however.
4 is only brutal if you're playing the 3D remake. The original version is pretty average difficulty.
I did play the 3D remake of both 3 and 4. I found them both brutally difficult especially late game.
5 is starting to get hard... my jobs right now are:
Bartz - Knight with monk's 30% + Hp ability
Krile - Blue Mage with full summoner ability mastered
Lenna - White Mage (+10% hp)
Faris - Ninja with mastered time magic ability
Bartz has the Brave blade and does 2000 a swing, Krile is very versatile and the summons are so helpful, Lenna is healer, Faris has dancing blade and twin blade... so if she attacks i can sometimes do 6000+ damage or use her to slow enemies and hastaga my entire party (plus comet in a pinch).
This team has been killing it for the last few hours. I think it's just that after playing 3, and recently Bravely Default, I'm getting better at RPG's with job systems (which I've typically disliked).
B = base HP, S = stamina. Bonuses to Stamina from equipment are not counted.
HP = (B * (S + 32)) / 32
Base HP is 20 at level 1, 25 at level 2, 30 at level 3, then increases by 10 every level until level 10 (where it is 100), 20 every level until level 30 (where it is 500), 30 every level until 35 (where it is 650), 40 every level until 40 (where it is 850), 50 every level until 45 (where it is 1100), 60 every level until 60 (where it is 2000), and then 50 again every level after that until 99.
At level 18, you would have a base HP of 260, and as a freelancer, stamina ranging from 25 (Lenna) to 28 (Galuf). That would calculate out to 479/463/487/471 HP for Bartz/Lenna/Galuf/Faris, respectively, give or take a point depending on how the game does its rounding.
These figures have been the same in every release of the game (I pulled the formula from an FAQ written 11 years ago).
(Note that your stamina might vary if you've mastered a job already.)
