Red mage will never be able to cast 4th level spells I'm afraid and mastering any job in world 1 isn't recommended since there are much more convenient grinding spots further ahead.

If you really want to do it though your bet bet is the islands around crescent islands.

Either you go to the island with the super enemy prototype. Learn the control ability from the beastmaster class and have him destroy himself for good xp/ab/gi as well as plenty of dark matter (very useful mix component)l. Another way of doing it is having blue mage cast dark flame followed by lvl5 death.

If you don't wanna hassle with prototype, there is another islandwith an encounter of five black flame.

Have a sorcerer or black mage equip a thunder rod and cast ramuh/thundaga for easy 1HKO.

level 4 is the final magic level that the red mage is able to cast. i have learned neither dark flame nor level 5 death but the beastmaster is an idea i could try. how many points does the prototype give? thundaga is not available until the end of world 2. i have not gotten ramuh yet but i could try to get him. how many points for black flame?

Prototype gives 4 abp. Black Flames - 3abp..

Pretty much the best place to grind ABP in World 1 is fight against Skull Eater - it gives 5 abp + Elixir (rare drop) + Tent (common steal). That is easy/fast battle, just find a way to do 1 dmg :D

BTW Red mage sux :D
not really. it is a useful class to level up early because it can access both white and black magic and thereby frees up a skill slot for a different class. i had some trouble with the skull eaters in the past. any advice for fighting them?

Red mages may use many things but are good in nothing :D

Anyway, Gaia works great and is 0 MP. Most of the randoms that it will use will kill it. Put eveybody in the back row. I will siggest using a party with at least 2 Gaia equipped, because not every attack can kill.

Throw a Scroll is another option. You might have to boost your magic power to actually do 1 damage (he has 90 def) - Ninja with magic or magic user with Throw. This method gives you 100% chance to kill, but cost a scroll.

P.S. The most usless weapon Excalipoor do exactly 1 dmg and hit always, but that will come in World 2.
i usually fight with freelancers as then i can use the best equipment at all times. i mastered monk in order to get more hp. as i need every character to be red mage due to the fact that i class them up equally i suppose the throw solution could work. i am going to master ninja anyway for dual wield. i found some scrolls while grinding for the monk.

You can buy scrolls too :)

If you gonna use scrolls, then you may farm exp too. First hit Skull Eater with spell (low MP) so there will be 5 Skull Eaters. Then throw a scroll to kill them all.

Yeha I meant thundara not thundaga, my bad.

Scrolls can be bought from barts hometown. Another simple way of getting them is farming the sea encounters with the steam ship. There are water type enemies with a guaranteed thunder scroll drop.

As for red mage, they DO cap out in tier 3 spells, I am 100% certain. Instead of getting the 4th tier spell they get dual cast, a cheezy ability that is incredibly powerful and the only reason why to bother with red mage to begin with. I agree that red magic has some utility in world one for sure, but their spell selection very quickly become outdated and is of little to no use as you progress in the game.

As for skull eaters, they are a high risk high reward grind which gives you ability score quickly, but I still prefer either prototype for their drop or the dark flame for their consistency. If you DO wanna go for the skull eater, gaia is indeed the best option.

Finally I want to add, make sure you get lvl 5 death before progressing to world two. It is cruicial for grinding in world two.

It can be found in the ancient library (just make sure not your entire party is a level dividible by five when you learn it).
