How do i open the map in Final Fantasy V?

Does anyone know how to open the world map? its kinda impossible to navigate and find out where to go without a map. In the settings it says that its button C but that doesnt do anything for me.

Edit: It looks like the map in this game is a lootable item from a table in one of the ships of Ship Graveyard, you can either loot it the first time you are there or later when you get the dragon you can fly there again.
