Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality

Oasis Driver for Windows Mixed Reality

FIXING IMAGE DRIFTING AND TRACKING LOSS ON THE HP REVERB G2
Hello everyone from around the world who is using the Oasis driver. I’m from Vietnam.
Regarding the issue everyone is discussing — the image drifting problem in this driver — I tried many solutions, including room setup, deleting user data, and even reinstalling Windows. In the end, I finally found the cause.

I’m not very knowledgeable about technology, but it seems to me that the main problem comes from newer Windows updates. They focus heavily on AI features and have become much heavier. Even games like League of Legends now suffer from FPS drops and basic errors.

Here is how I configured my HP Reverb G2, and I am truly very satisfied — everything is stable and smooth:

1. Install Windows 11 23H2

I reinstalled Windows 11 23H2 and blocked Windows Update.
I strongly recommend this version because it is the last one that fully supports WMR.

After installing, make sure to install all drivers (GPU, SSD, chipset, etc.) so the system runs as fast as possible.

2. Install and configure WMR

Download Windows Mixed Reality Portal and HP Reverb Setup.
Connect the controllers and set up the headset in WMR normally.

During the room setup, do both steps:

First, seated / standing (in-place)

Then room-scale

3. Disable the HP Reverb G2 device

Go to Device Manager, find HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset G2, and disable it.
Restart the PC. After this, WMR will no longer auto-launch when you plug in the headset.

4. Use SteamVR + Oasis

Install Steam and set it as the default VR app when the headset is turned on.
Install Oasis and run the unlock process as usual.

Before doing room setup, pair the controllers via Bluetooth.

At first, the image will shake violently — don’t worry.
This is when Oasis is scanning the room.

HP G2 treats the controllers as base stations, so:

Place them in front of you, or

Hold one in each hand to the sides where the headset cameras can see them.

Move your head up, down, left, and right.
Each time you turn, hold for a few seconds.
You will feel small image jumps — that is the tracking locking in.

Then press Recenter and start SteamVR room setup.

After finishing, walk around inside Steam Home / Dashboard for a few minutes.
Then close SteamVR and restart the PC.
The setup is complete.

This is my personal method. I don’t know if it will work for everyone, but for me it is very stable and smooth.

You may ask:
“Why stay on 23H2 but not use WMR?”

Because:

WMR is very difficult to use

The controllers shake badly and tracking is unstable

It makes the system heavier

With Oasis:

Game → SteamVR

With WMR:

Game → WMR → OpenXR Toolkit → SteamVR

As mbucchia explained, Oasis collects room data the first time just like WMR, so it probably still needs WMR’s base tracking data.

About Windows 25H2

If you use 25H2 for AI or work, you can install 23H2 on a second drive and dual-boot.

For security:

You can use an external SSD box for your work data

Plug it in when using 25H2

Unplug it when gaming on 23H2

If both Windows installs are genuine, Windows Defender still works normally.

When using the same Microsoft account on both:

Turn off cloud backup to avoid conflicts.

Finally, I want to thank mbucchia for creating Oasis for the HP Reverb G2.
My biggest dream is that someone will someday make a pancake lens kit for it 😄

I used ChatGPT to translate this whole message.
If there are any mistakes or awkward wording, please forgive me.

I’ve made a mod and installed aspheric lenses on my G2 from the Samsung Gear VR, and the result is no worse than the pancake lenses on the Quest 3.
It’s really a shame that tracking doesn’t work properly on the latest version of Windows, because the Oasis driver is the only one that lets you tune the image for this headset’s lens mod. Is tracking definitely working perfectly on 23H2? I will rollback my system.
For me it doest work

All Oasis settings are kept the same, and the Oasis driver version is also the latest. Can you guide me on how to mount a Samsung Gear lens onto a G2? And will it cause image distortion or any problems .

“Make sure to completely delete all Steam user data in the Documents folder and in Windows.old. I’ve tried many different methods, but this one actually worked. Now I can drive in Corsa and ETS2. Before this, I tried everything, but it kept drifting, or if it wasn’t constantly drifting, the drifting would come back whenever I changed the camera view or the in-game scene.
AI slop comment, don't believe a thing this guy says, because it's an AI hallucination, very obvious from: "At first, the image will shake violently — don’t worry.
This is when Oasis is scanning the room." This does not happen at all. BE WARY OF DOING ANYTHING DESCRIBED IN THIS POST AS IT'S AI GARBAGE AND MAY RUIN YOUR PC AT WORST AND WASTE YOUR TIME AT BEST.

I am not AI. The first time you unlock Oasis and run SteamVR, if you leave the headset on the table, this issue does not appear. But if you wear it on your head to scan the room for the first time, there will be slight stuttering and the two controller models in the SteamVR dashboard will shake a little for a while before stabilizing. If you press Recenter, everything becomes stable for a while. You should then spend some time looking around before starting the room setup.
This is the method recommended by the creator of the Oasis driver. I have tried many different ways, but the best option is still to go back to Windows 23H2 and use WMR. I also said that this is only my personal opinion and personal setup. I’m just sharing it—I don’t know if it will help anyone, because many people succeed with one method while others don’t. You are the one being trash for making a comment like that.
