[Testing In Progress] HP Reverb G2 Headset Drifting fix
Update
sigh so the solution to this problem may have been a lot simplar than I though, and I completely overlooked this, thinking that it is more complecated than it was. Admittedly I was going about this incorrectly.

All that needs to happen every once in a while, is to go to the following SteamVR>SteamVR Settings> Developer. then under the Developer tab you should see a couple of options under 'Room and Tracking'. Now don't make the same mistake that I did an select the wrong space size which is why I initially overlooked this. Whilst I in a medium sized space. I need to select 'Small Space', as I frequently use my headset for sim-racing and I have my setup between my desk and a wall.

You then need to place the headset on the ground and click quick calibrate. Don't do this whilst you are wearing the headset as this will result with Steam VR thinking that the ground is at eye level.

If you have any questions or concerns about this (or my methods for problem solving). please comment below, and I will respond as soon as possible.

Disclaimer

I am currently testing this solution, as it appears there may be an additional factor that was not initially identified. Once further testing has been completed, I will update this post with any necessary corrections to better assist other users.
This post is not intended to mislead anyone; it simply reflects the solution I initially believed I had found. I apologise if it has caused any confusion or frustration for other users.

Hi all,
If anyone has been expeirencing a fustrating problem where the headset will start drifting by itself which either leads to the same thing happening or unexplained visual jittering in games. I would highly suggest checking to make sure the following setting is enabled.

Firstly to find it, go to SteamVR Settings, then go to the camera tab.
At the top of this page, look for the setting labelled room view.
This is likely set to disabled, in which I would Highly reccomend enabling this setting.

I have been having trouble with this problem for quite a while now, only being able to find quick work arounds. However, enabling room view has since resolved this issue for me.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please reach out. and I will do my best to respond.

I hope this helps

My camera tab is blank. Only option is reset to default.

The "Camera" tab is to enable passthrough (viewing your environment with your control, like the Mixed Reality Portal's flashlight). OP is likely experiencing a placebo effect.

Let me look into this and I will see what I can find.

I honestly don't think it is, Yes there is a passthrough setting which can also be (virtually) attached to one of your G2 controllers. However, there is another setting specificially called 'room view', which instantly fixed the problem for me.

However, I could very well be wrong. I will test again this afternoon, and get back to you with the results.

Oh I apologise I just realised your the deveolper of the software.

Honestly I was having this odd issue and as soon as I enabled this setting. it instantly went away.

I'm uncertain as to why this is the case, and as I said above I call very well be wrong. it just seem to match pretty well.

By the way, Thank you so much for creating this, my headset has actually been running a lot better now then it was using the original software 😅

Very odd. Also, Room View is currently not implemented in Oasis, hence double-odd...

How frequently was your issue occurring before this setting would have solved it?

Oh curious...
Honestly it was happening constantly. I would run the unlocking tool again which would sometimes resolve it. However, when I enabled room view, it started tracking brilliantly.

I will go back and test this again later today, and will let you know. I will try disabling this setting to see if the issue I was experiencing represents itself.

Apologies for the delayed replies, I'm located in Australia.

What the Camera options do is telling SteamVR it can use the Camera feed for passthrough. This in turn starts a thread in Oasis that takes this data from the camera sensor and then push it into SteamVR. If anything, this option will slightly increase CPU utilization (because we are now copying about 20MB/s of data). However, it's also possible that doing this somehow (un)messes up some SteamVR internal thread priorities.

So if you can confirm 100% your observations, it would be good to investigate further.

I think thezs settings might only show if you enable "Show Advanced" in the bottom left.
okay so oddly, I was not able to recreate the constant issue I have been having for the past few months. And regarding the settings, I found these with "Show Advanced" turned off. I'm now considering if this may have been a bug with with either the software or my VR headset. and by turning on room view, may start or really restart the front and side cameras, Or maybe just the front cameras.

It's understandbly very odd, and I hope I am not leading anyone on some wild goose-chase.

It just seemed highly conincidental that I have been having this issue for a long time now, and just by changing a setting it fixes itself and yet not be the answer. Hence why I'm starting to wonder if it is some form of bug.
There is nothing in camera, like BigKitten already said, only reset to default.

Advanced settings on or off does nothing.

Where exacly are you finding this setting?

Edit: Perhaps this is a G2 V2 setting only?
I hat to delete the WMR positions in the SteamVR Settings, which here still active. The result was, that the whole VR world had a gradient. Maybe that helps?

I really have no idea what you mean by this. Do you mean clear environment data? That's what everybody already knows to do frequently for wmr headsets.

This is a SteamVR (valve) issue.
