- A Farmer needs to take Flax stems and turn them into Flax seeds
- A Miller turns the Flax seeds into Flax Oil. They also take petals (harvested from Orchid, Creosote, or Trillium) and turn them into Colored Powders, then combine the Oil and the Powder into Oil Paint
- A Gatherer needs to either take Flax Stems and turn them into Flax Fibers, or take Cotton Bolls and turn them into Cotton lint
- A Tailor takes either the Flax Fiber or the Cotton Lint and turns that into thread, then weaves the thread into cloth, then combines the cloth with boards to make a Canvas
- anyone can take the Canvas and Oil Paint and turn that into Art Supplies at a workbench
- The easel is also made from Canvas, boards & hewn logs
The Easel is your crafting table, and is reusable; the Art Supplies are consumed by making a painting. Place the Easel and interact with it, and you will go into a screenshot mode. You can move around a little bit to get the shot and angle you want, but you need to stay fairly close to the Easel. Take your screenshot, and you will get an animation of your painting appearing on the Easel, then it will be placed into your inventory as an item. To display the picture, you would place a frame on a wall (several types made with different materials ranging from plain wood to gold), then interact with the frame to drop the picture into its storage.
In general, the various recipes in game are hyperlinked, so you could look at the workbench, see the recipe for Art Supplies, then hover over the "Oil Paint" ingredient to see the recipe for that, discover it takes colored powders, hover again to see where the powders come from, and hover over that recipe to see that it takes petals, which turns out to be a category of items harvested from three different plants. You can also go the other way from Orchid petals to see what they are used in, find out that they have one use to make colored powder, and follow that up the chain.
