Roots too strong

There is 5 tiles of dirt on the floor of my house which I wish to make wood. However, everytime I try to dig it I get told that I try to dig it up but the roots are too strong.

What do I need to do to get around this? Do I need a skill, better version of the shovel, etc.?

Are there any tree stumps in your room?

If there are, remove them by hitting the stump with an axe and then try to shovel the dirt.

If there aren't, that's most likely a bug and I'd be happy to open a bug report with your issue so we can look into it.

No there are no tree stumps. It is a hill in the middle of a grasslands. I've made sure to pick all plants and stuff in the area as well. Just my crafting tables(which were placed after) and hewn wood. I can send screenshots if necessary.

Yea, definitely sounds like a bug. I've opened a github issue for this and I'll take a look soon.

Unfortunately that sort of sucks since you can't replace your floor at the moment. If you are/you can contact the admin of your server, they should be able to remove the offending blocks with a devtool item.

The server was restarted and set to the most current version. When this happened, the bug was fixed and I was able to dig dirt in my house just fine.

I'm going to keep the bug report open anyway so we can still look into the original cause. If it ever happens again, posting in here again would be helpful.

I just experienced this issue as well. My server and client were already up to date but a simple restart of server and client fixed it.

ive encountered this as well, i think there was a tree at the location before but it has since been chopped down and the stump removed

I ran into this also, it turns out it was a tree only one block above me and its roots touched the block I was trying to dig up

I had this happen to me, I believe this bug happens when a tree dies of natrual causes.

i'm playing on a server called STARFISH.. and having this issue how do i contact admin. (server holder) or what ever to either update or restart server to fix the issue.

Yep I'm on the same server as LeDyh and im encountering issues where a tree had been but i cant dig the block it occupied up - there is no tree stump just the space where the stump should have been had it been cut down which it wasn't
