Grey death??
A few game hours in and I'm seeing plants turned brown/grey all over the place, what is it and how do I stop it?

You can't. Maps generator is broken obviously. It was broken before - it generates too much plants, so they overplanted, then die and death plants also counts towards overplant. This is why around half of the servers I played have no huckleberries to research Farming if someone did not gather them on the first day - they just die overnight and that's all. In 9.0 new biomes was added so it's probably broken even more now.

ok, so prolly of interest to hunt down every plant type to collect seeds?
Yes, that's what I did for huckleberries some times, especially when I planned to play farmer. I don't think it affects every plant type. At least wasn't in 8.0. But I also noticed too many grey plants in 9.0, a lot more and for lot wider plants range that it was before.

It is quite challenging. I play solo mostly so trying to get things going while not cutting off a vital spot is where i am on the learning curve, presently trying to get a tree farm going esp
Well I don't see a bit of "cheating" by using admin tools as a problem in solo game then. If game is broken, you shouldn't fix it by playing it by rules that it's not following itself, you should fix it by admin tool.

Well, of course if you want to play it like new "extinction" mode, it's up to you play it by those updated broken rules. I think someone even proposed something like this: meteor hits on day 1, and you try to preserve as much seeds as possible and then rebuilding a new world after meteor hits.

Still getting used to the game, also unaware there was an admin or cheat tool.
Aside from that I didn't know you could start anew after the meteor o.O

But at present taking a break, last I saw things were browning fast even underwater. It's a good game for sure so curious to see it's development.

There are some command like "/give stone 20" or somethnig to provide you resources of any kind. And for starting anew after meteor it was just suggestion for new possible mode for game, not something that actually exists now. Though you can set meteor on first day I think in server config, but afaik you can't do much after that?

No, the issue is something else.
I've managed to make a tight pineapple farm (all tiles used, no spacing) in the same place as other jungle plants were dying. Whatever the issue is, is not overcrowded. Maybe they are generated with old age and die of old age?

It's because they are cultivated. It worked like this before - you can plant 5x5 if conditions are right for plant. But self-grown plants will die. I seen it like that - if I had plant that was not cultivated and planted 24 around it, next day it was dead, so I needed to re-plant it.

Afaik there is no old age. Farmed plants can use all soil minerals and die probably (or at least provide less yield), but this applies probably for both cultivated and wild plants.

Actually if I recall correctly, it shown in farming tool info. So you can make one and check it for those plants, it will show if they overcrowded or not, or if other conditions are not met

Hmm, the plants I plant are always overcrowded, do that reduce the yield?

Not sure, don't think so though, since everyone planting it like that. Maybe growth time is a bit longer?
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I just entered again server which is on 6th day now, and jungle is just empty. Only things that are left are trees - everything else died out.

PS: Actually in other areas it's not that bad. Maybe some stuff wasn't rendered? Who knows...

Salal and Switch grass appear to be growing while all else dies.. Anyone else getting this? I only saw this when starting back into the game and mousing the message box on top of the screen.
Crops that are planted by a player have a way higher overcrowd resistance than wild ones. They get a little more leeway with their needs.
