Eco
can't connect to local server?
I installed the game again after a few years break. I created my own world in singleplayer, but it says that I can't connect in offline mode? I am literally the one hosting the server and I have internet working. What is going on?

Are you connected to a VPN when joining local server?

as I remember it this game doesn't really have a singleplayer mode. It just starts a multiplayer server locally and your client connects to it. So anything that would normally affect a network connection like windows firewall can get in the way

When you say you are hosting the server in single player mode, you mean that you open the client, and start the world from there? That is the only way to access the true single-player mode that was added in the last few patches. If you are starting the server as a separate application, and then trying to connect to it with the client (even if both are on the same computer), then you need to meet all the usual requirements to host a server (for the server application) and connect to it (for any client instances). I don't normally play that way, so I may be missing some details, but I think that means:

- internet connection must be working, and any firewalls must allow traffic on the ports the game uses (port 3000 at least, there may be others)
- if you bought the game through Steam, Steam must be in online mode, and you must be signed into steam on an account that owns ECO. If you bought the game directly from SLG, you may need to sign into that account
- The Steam servers must be online (outages are very rare, but they would block the game) and so must the Strange Loop Games servers (outages are again rare, but they last longer than Steam outages when they happen, just because the company is smaller, and so has fewer IT people). Similarly, any firewalls or VPNs must allow traffic to Steam and to SLG.

I recall seeing a discussion on this forum about there being a problem with using the same Steam account to both authorise the server application and authorise a client connected to that server; I'll edit in a link if I can find it.

[Edit] I think this is the one I was thinking of. https://steamcommunity.com/app/382310/discussions/14/603019495810831302/

If Eco starts in offline mode, please check the respective entry in the FAQ: https://steamcommunity.com/app/382310/discussions/4/4701287772393189498/
