Nutrients where added in the latest updates, so now plants will require fertilizer to give yield. Before, you could just plant and be done with it. Now you gotta give nutrients to the plants.
It's also really important to have a soil sampler, to know whether or not the plant is mature yet.
You CANNOT do this, just by looks. A beet can look like it's finished, but it can be decieving and give you only 1 back, even tho it looks like it has 3 beets.
A Soil sampler is vital for a effective farmer!
Also make sure the plant has Temperature, Moisture, Pollution and salt water are at a green value to 100% match. If its yellow, the plant will take twice as long to grow, and if red. won't grow at all.
---
You need Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium to get max yield of the plant.
If you don't know what the plant needs, you can find it on the eco wiki, by typing "eco game farming" if you want to know everything about that plant, there's a list for most of them.
You can check the map for these nutrients aswell, by going to the nutrient tab and clicking on one of them. The more glowing, the more nutrients there is.
You could also make ur own nutrients by making fertilizer (Getting the fertilizer skill) or getting it from someone that has the skill to do it.
Plants will take nutrients from the ground until they mature, in which they stop, letting the nutrients slowly rise once more.
If your soil lacks nutrients, add fertilizer to fill it once more.
---
If you overcrowd ur crops as in put many crops close together, it'd be best to keep a higher than 60% value of each nutrient.
You don't need to stress however, as the max yield will only matter when its mature. If you top off the nutrients before the plant is mature, it'll give max yield when it's mature.
You cannot change the yield after the plant is mature, by adding fertilizer. This only works when its still growing.
IMPORTANT:
Fertilizer has values, while the soil sampler has a precentage.
These are NOT the same.
Easy translation is 1 - 5%.
So a 4 will equal to a 20% nutrient.
Currently, you can exceed the 100% without penalty. This might get fixed in a later update.
