Ok so.
Your game is without a doubt the most grindy... micro management game I have EVER played....
All good... things are running along smooth enough.
Just spent a stupid amount of time grinding a building to house benches that need to be inside... cause yeah.. thats a good thing.

Now I have my first building with still an abundance of floor space and space in general.. your now telling me the building I built cant handle the ON and OFF craft stations inside.. I now need to grind a new building.

The F kinda game are you trying to make here..???

I tip my hat to the depth you have gone too but tbh I turned the asteroid off because what you expect moderate players too achieve in the the time frame is just stupidly unrealistic.

I know there are many that play with people and crew.. but this game solo.....grind grind grind grind grind and for what......?......... bricks?
Meanwhile an asteroid is quickly approaching.
I know the timer is 30 REAL time days but without help...... you get nowhere fast.

Lets face it... as much as we think people will work together.. it just doesnt happen unless you are part of a community.. and you are only a part of that community cause it has benefits.

Long story short.... Im playing solo and learning the ropes...but each lets say progression i seem to get too involves a requirement focussed on massive multiplayer

example...
I am out getting materials and food.. but i need a new work bench..
that work bench is now saying it needs to be built in a new building because of volume and capacity.... so now I need to have someone building new dwellings while I am out getting resources.... while also out hunting for food that is quickly used up...
dont forget farming and the aquaduct that is needed....
OH LOOK???? THE METEOR IS APON US!!!!!

WHERE IS THE SOLO GAMEPLAYABILITY???????

Hats off to the detail you have gone to.. but come on...
We already have the hustle and bustle of our RL.... why is this so Second Life.

You need other people on The server to spezialize in other stuff so you can Focus on something.

You dont really see irl engineers farming carrots when they arent engineering

This game isnt really a Solo game, you really arent supposed to play singleplayer

the game is not meant for solo play at all. It is a highly collaborative multiplayer game, no other way.

Lets face it... as much as we think people will work together.. it just doesnt happen unless you are part of a community.. and you are only a part of that community cause it has benefits.

this is not true at all! People in this game are super friendly and helpfull in general. I really advice you to check out a random public server and see how the game plays when you are collaborating.

yeah thats what I figured..... its a shame... not all people have others to play with..
Myself..I have people I COULD play with... but non are interested in this game.
Now I dont get to fully get the experience because im forced to HAVE TO play with others.

All things aside... I commend the great deal of detail the devs have gone too..
I love survival games and micro management games.. This is the best of all... its just a shame it cant efficiently be done solo.

Yeah.. if I truly want to experience this game at its fullest.. you are right.... I need to find a server to play on.

just join a random, most people start a server solo and will find that everyone needs to cooperate to make the game work so a community forms automatically.

I started playing this game without having any of my friends playing it, but i made a bunch of new friends along the way :)

Eco is first and foremost a multiplayer game. If the default setting of No Collaboration is not towards your playstyle (they work for most people and we unfortunately can't provide defaults that work for everyone, as those don't exist), you can adjust those. When creating a world ingame, by choosing custom (later via file edits, we plan to make this better) you can set multiplicators for resource costs, crafting time, time needed to get a new star, time to level up a specialty and a few other options which should allow you to make the game as much or little of grind you want it.

Also: I see lots of collaboration (which does include competition in captialistic society systems, though) on the official servers. More so on Tiger of course, but that's pretty much what its for.

@Aldo

try these settings on the "Host a world" section:

Speciality Cost Multiplier 0.1
Skill Gain Multipler 10
Speciality Experience Per Level 50
Craft Resource Multiplier 0.1
Craft Time Multiplier 0.1
Player Experience Per Speciality 1

Im using these in my sp play through and I haven't found it particularly grindy.. busy with lots to do... but not waiting on timers or level progress.

I think the "Player Experience Per Speciality" just automatically gives you all the stars. I seemed to be at level 30 after my first level up. This is good though as in SP you are going to need just about every profession asap.

Try it out, after an hour or so of logging and digging you will have tons of material to build structures for all the crafting stations you will have unlocked.

Well, that reduces crafting costs by 90% and giving you all skills nearly instantly and hence is pretty much just cheat-mode with no challenge at all, but if that works for you I'm happy you can play Eco as you like :)
Aldo Apr 26, 2021 @ 12:47am
Both have valid ideas/points.
I dont want it to be too instant or easy but I will most definitely be modifying the values as its just too grindy and time consuming.
Just need a better NON CHEAT way to teraform.. its the only thing really zapping the fun for me and its needed A LOT
Friend that was playing with me.. lasted 1 day and hasn't been back lol

I prefer to call it "Creative Mode" :D
But yea, i tweaked them too extreme, I agree not much challenge but good way to quickly see how the professions fit together.

Point is, there is a sweet spot in there for everybody, just got to experiment a bit to find it.

Aldo,

I just saw your comments, come join our server, I feel into the same hole you did before I realized it and decided to make a community for ours. All new players are always welcome and veteran players alike. We are only on day 2 and have a nice balance of pulling your own weight plus community to help with other things.

Our server name is: [US East] New Earth: New Horizon

Well, I obviously answer from a developer point - so whatever makes you feel good with Eco. In the end the only important thing is that YOU are having fun, how you do that is totally your choice. I'm personally more a hardcore player, though :D
