Fishing boat use?

Question about the medium fishing trawler.

When I try using it with a net, I get 1 RNG pull from the server approx every 30 sec and I *MAY* get a fish depending on RNG. This means I get MAYBE 2 fishes a minute while I actively drive the boat around. It just seems extremely ineffective when I can get all the fish I need with a bunch of fish traps without having to actively use them. Even then, the only fish that is useful in the ocean is the Tuna, the others are just normal fish tags. So, the only reason for the boat is to try and optimise Tuna fishing for the Poke Bowl Recipe, but even then, it's quicker to jump in the ocean and use a bow to 'hunt' Tuna.

+ you have to find fuel for your trawler.

Am I getting this wrong or is the trawler a huge waste of time and resources?

If my observations are correct, and the number of existing fish are as consistent as they appear, if the Fishing boat where any more effective, entire species of fish would go extinct in one or two fishing runs .. It's probably good that you only catch 5 or 10 at a time, when there are typically less than 500 of any given fish species on your world.

The fishing trawler will only catch fish it can actually see, so fishing in water without fish will lead to a lack of fish. Traps also work exactly the same way, so they are technically the same except the trawler costs way way more and also won't just run automatically

We're going to evaluate the usefulness of the trawler for next update - when outside of an area where there is actual physical fish it only has a random chance to catch fish (that technically doesn't exist, but only catching fish where there is physical fish would be very unsatisfying), alike to to fish traps.

The problem still exists. The trawler, while looking great, is useless.
There is also no fish in the deep ocean. Fish is only just at the coast line, where the water is in many places to shallow for the big ship.
The best bet is to place 4 or 5 crab traps and you are fed up with "fish" as crab turn into raw fish just like every real fish.
I never caught a blue shark with the trawler.
From my experience it's way more efficient to use the small kanu and go fishing with a rod. You get far more fish in the same time than with the trawler an you also get shark which yields more raw fish than the small fish you get with the trawler.
